Help with Western L46-8

A few years ago I bought a western l46-8 and now I have discovered that it has wood handles. What's the deal with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pics needed to provide specific info.

It "could" be a factory mistake although I doubt it. The only deliberate mismatches I know of were delrin handled W46-8s.

Sometimes people mistake the highly compressed leather for wood, but frequently the leather discs would become compromised and the owner would replace the leather with wood slabs.

I agree, pictures will help with getting a good answer. There is testimony out there that Western did repair some WW2 knives sent into them by the owners and got the original handle replaced with wood.
Does the blade have the "L46" stamped on it?
Also when Coleman owned Western, they didn't hold strictly to the original intent of the stock number. Lots of examples of knives with stock numbers that should indicate a specific handle material that were sold with a different type handle.
