Hi All,

I picked up a White River Model 1 in magnacut steel with the intention of clipping it outside the waistband with no belt. Want to wear on board shorts etc in the summer when fishing. I didn’t realize that the kydex sheath was for belt only. Any ideas of what clip I can add that will be comfortable and allow owb carry? I appreciate it!

Does the clip on the Utiliclip rub your skin when it’s on the inside?
I expect it would. I think all the ulticlip variants are designed for IWB, belt, or pocket carry primarily. I use the Slim 3.3 for pocket kydex and they work great, but they have some corners and edges to them. If you put the clip on the inside of your waistband instead of the sheath, I think you would feel it.

The Ulticlip AP would be the smoothest because it's a round folded wire.

Maybe a Mummert clip. It's wider and smoother. It didn't grip my pocket like the Ulticlip so I stopped using it.

You need something like a paddle attachment that's more common with pistol and mag holsters. I do remember seeing a knife company that had a kydex paddle for their sheaths, but that was years ago and I don't remember the company. I actually bought several cheap paddle holsters that was in a box of miscellaneous trade-in crap at a gunshop not too long ago for a few bucks each. I plan on modifying a paddle to fit one of my knife sheaths.

I am a big fan of Discreet Carry Concepts clips. They have a wide range of sizes. They are compact and minimalist, and I find them very comfortable for IWB Carry. The only issue you might have is finding the clip with the correct screw hole configuration for the sheath. They do have a couple models with screw slots instead of holes which allows the clip to fit a range of screw hole configurations.

I switched from ulticlip to discreet carry concepts. On this knife I had to add a piece of kydex to accommodate the clip in the center. It had an ulticlip on there before, same mounting method.

Montana Knife Company has a clip that may work. The MKC Ulticlip. Not too expensive, and looks like it clips using a spring clamp.

The Discreet Carry clips are good, but OP specifically said he wanted outside the waistband carry without a belt. Paddle is the best way I see this working. OP, go to holstersmith and look under mountings. There are a couple different paddles that look like they could be made to work with your sheath. There's even one called a universal split paddle that would definitely work. Depending on your knife sheath, you might need some neoprene rubber washers for spacers.

I used to carry a S&W .38 airweight in a paddle holster on a pair of shorts (no belt) when I was outside doing yard work. Worked fine without pulling my shorts down, a knife is much lighter so should be completely comfortable.
