Hello. I'm new to knife making but it's clear that sanding and shaping with an angle grinder just isn't cutting it anymore. I've started to build my 2x72 grinder and picked up two motors. One is ready to go, but the second one i have isn't wired. I grabbed it because it was only $5 and thought it might be salvageable. It's an old Franklin Electric 2hp single phase motor, and I can't find anything online about it. I was hoping that someone here is familiar with the wiring. If not i still have my other motor. Thanks in advance. Here are some pics of my build and my motor.

the wires coming out from the motor :(
3 brown, 3 black coming from the rear, and 2 black and 1 white coming out of the side. Looks like it should be connected to a capacitor, but the info plate doesn't have anything suggesting it.

the last knife i made using an angle grinder, and a 3x21 belt sander... to me about 4 hours on just shaping.

I'm only guessing, but it looks like someone modified it to have a reversing switch. The B/W was probably the line in and the rest went to a DPDT switch. Unless you want to pull it apart and see where they go, then you won't know if it is for 110 or 220, and where the six wires go. I would either give it to a friend who knows motors to straighten it out and hook up the switch... or use it as a door stop.

There isn't anything that special about a 56 frame single phase motor, its pretty common. I would be heavily weighing my time savings to just buy a new one.

I got my last small frame motor from Grizzly, and they shipped it to me in a couple of days. Its hard to beat their deal on low HP motors.

Thank you for all of the replies. Shows I know nothing about motors and should probably just buy a new one. haha.
