What do the date stamps say? Likely bg42, with those lines on the scale tops.

You can shine a flashlight on the inside of the scale and you’ll see a date code….I believe.

pull the blade, look at the washer area it will either have nothing which would be BG42 or an S for S30v

This is the best way
The scale dates could give you a good idea, but their are situations where it could bethe erong idea, since they are made in batches and used as needed.

Thank you. Before I take the knife apart where would the date code be located. Front of scale near tang, back, middle

the dates on the slabs will be near the clip area on the inside. in ABCD/year format

EDIT: i made a mistake, numbers will be up near the backspacer.

the blade steel is on the blade where the washers do their thing.

They started the date coding in 97.

This should help you further.

Unless its an early regular 96/97 the clip would've been replaced. The clip on your regular was introduced in 01.

Can you show the inside of each scale since you have it apart?

If that’s rust, get some barkeepers friend.

It will rip the rust off and leave the metal clean and untouched.

Yes - it is really awesome. I also picked up a small classic sebenza with a D00 date code and when I took it about the blade is also unmarked. So another BG42 find.

I can’t find much on prior sales for the small classic sebenza with a BG-42 blade. I am guessing there was a pretty short window ~less than 2 years when that steel was used on the classic. I also have the s30v version which I edc. I don’t want to run afoul of forum rules but can anyone share the value delta on these models based on the blade steel.
