I cant decide what to get. ive heard how great Striders are and how tough they are but i havnt heard mutch about Hinderer and his XM-18. Hands on experiences would be appreicated. thanks!

I own 2 XM-18's and 5 Strider folders, I prefer the XM-18 but that is just personal preference. The strider is a bit stronger but the XM-18 has better fit and finish. Try and handle both and see which you like better. Both are well made and have their place in my collection. Do you care more about it being hard use or is fit and finish more important? I am not telling you the XM-18 is better just that atm I like it a bit more the my SnG/SMF, ask me again next week and I might be back on my Striders. Keep in mind I own more Striders and will continue to buy more of them.

I absolutely love my XM-18. A knife doesn't have to be a brick to be tough. A knife can also have good fit and finish and still be tough. I think of the XM-18 as the love child between a SNG and a Sebenza.

we are on passaround #4 with an X-18. SO if you go to the passaround forums or better use google to search bladeforums, you'll find opinions.

IMO, I'd get an X-18 over Strider any day of the week. The problem is of course they are hard to come by.

I would say they are equally strong and durable.

if you can get an xm, i would recommend that over the strider. and you will likely not have any problems getting the sng if you want one.

ive owned several striders, and had a passaround xm-18 for about two weeks. both are well made and all around great knives.

hinderer recently started producing "mid tech" versions, though they dont seem to be any easier to get.

I own 4 XM-18's, and used to own Striders. I can not tell you how much I LOVE my XM-18's. It is my most carried knife!

If I were able to easily get an XM, I'd probably go for one. But, I'm not one to wait months, nor pay inflated aftermarket prices. And if I were intending to use the knife hard, I'd go for the one that is easier to get and replace, that most likely being the Strider.
Good luck.

I have mx-18 and I can tell you it's a very strong folder but I don't have a strider folder yet. mx-18 have a titanium liner on the G10 side of the handle but strider only uses G10 without a steel liner. I've never handled one but I can tell by the images on the website. Sorry if I'm wrong. Does this make the folder as strong as mx-18? I prefer one with a titanium liner.

I would much rather have an XM-18 over a Strider SnG. For one, I find it more visually appealing, and secondly, I found it much more comfortable to grip in brief handling of one at a show.

i would go with the XM18.

and yes i have both, the SnG is a great knife but the '18 is just imho a little better, a little better F&F, a little better ergos, just a little bit better.

both are great knives though.

Apparently I'm the odd man out, I'd get a production SnG, or probably a SMF more specifically, over an XM any day. The XM may be sexier to look at but the production SnG/SMF will out cut them every time because of the full height flat grind compared to the low sabre grind on the XMs. I also absolutley hate the spanto tip, which is all you see anymore coming from Rick, as it's way too thick to be useful for the things I do. I also don't like the flipper action of the XMs as the lever is in the wrong spot for good flipping action.

The F/F would usually go to the XMs although I had one with a cock eyed grind that had to be fixed a while ago. And sending Striders back when new to get lockups fixed gets to be a PITA. But I'd still go Strider given the choice.
