hi everyone,
I have a problem: I need to justify more
knife purchases.
I have a knife in my office desk, one in my truck, one in my wifes car, one for daily carry, one for work, one for hunting, one for fishing, and of course kitchen knives.
Now don't get me wrong I am not complainig
about the number of knives I own, I want to buy more!
every time I read about or see a new knife I struggle to come up with a reason to buy it!! I'm running out of reasns ! Any body else have this "problem" ?
My wife is very cool and doesn't mind me buying knives but sometimes I feel guilty just the same.( ya know what I mean ?)
So help !! how do you all justify your knife purchases !!

thanx, dan

There is a cure for the guilt complex you mention, and it's a simple as 1, 2, 3:

1) pick up a nasty habit (any annoying, non destructive habit will do: biting your nails to the quick for example, or maybe putting too much cream in your coffee);

2) kick the nasty habit (or come really close);

3) reward yourself for the good work by buying more knives!

Don't forget, you're only human. If that habit rears its head again, simply follow steps 2 and 3.

Hope that helps,

RLR

Gutter....

Theres another simple solution to this problem..
Start a business around the knife industry...
This way when there are new knives around,, no one will notice...
You can justify it to yourself by saying to yourself "I NEED this knife for the Business"

LOL

If that doesn't work,, then don't worry... The guilt only lasts a little while,, it will go away, the minute you need to justify another knife! The circle of life continues

Guilt...? What is this "guilt" you speak of? i know not this word! Dost thou feel guilt when thou breathes? Dost thou feel guilt when though surveyist thine kingdom? Nay!! what is this "guilt" thou speakest of??? okay...enough from the voices in my head. in all seriousness, it's a sickness. It'll only get worse. hey, you could be buying 10,000.00 bass boats, or running around blowing money on other women. at least this way; when you die, your wife can sell the knives!![To us; your friends, of course! your pal, russ aka bladezealot

Maybe every once in a while you should get your wife a new knife. If she got involved in this addiction you could have a lot of fun

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Like the man said, "When I was young I spent all my money on liquor and loose women. The rest I wasted." I submit that there is a close parallel with knives here.

Just sold my first knife to a fellow forum member. I kept the missus informed and how smooth it all went. Now I tell her of the ones I buy, maybe I'll sell a bunch of them for huge profits and we'll sail away on a $10,000.00 bass boat. ><g>

(Well......it could happen.)

"I wouldn't mind you being inside my head if you weren't clearly so crazy."

"I do not conform according to your opinion."

I used to be the same way. I'd find a reason for each purchase -- a niche that needed filling -- in order to avoid feeling guilty.

Now I'm more honest with myself. There is only one reason why I buy another knife: I want it. My wife, like yours, is pretty cool about the whole knife thing, and doesn't mind my spending a little money on things that make me happy.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of More Knives

I have had the same problem of felling guilty about buying so many knives, especially when I buy a custom knife that costs about $400. I try to tell myself that it is for collecting purposes and in 20 or more years I will be able to get rid of it and make a nice profit. Of course this will never happen because I would never get rid of any of my knives, but it is a good excuse to tell people who ask.
THANK YOU!!

Guttercat, I am very disturbed by this statement and there is something that I just do not understand.......Why do you only have ONE knife for each category??? There is your justification right there my friend! There is never one knife that is perfect for the job, you need MANY for each category. If this does not set your mind at ease then try this justification....I WANT IT!! I WANT IT!! I WANT IT!!! this always works for me.

Seriously though, it is like telling an art collector that he can only buy 1 painting for each style and then he has to stop collecting. Or if you are not a collector but more of a user; it's like telling a mechanic that he can only have 1 wrench, 1 screwdrive, etc.

Yeah! Drop the chalupa...

You also have to stop thinking that the knives only belong in the truck, toolboxes, tackle box, etc. I have started believing that my pants feel lonely without a knife. Therefore I have justified a knife for each pair of pants. It works great around the holidays when my wife buys me new clothes, I have to buy another knife to fill the pockets.

Outside of a dog, a Knife is man's best friend. Inside a dog it is very, very Dark.

Guttercat, I notice from your profile that, like me, you are also interested in firearms. That provides you with another justification. In general, high-quality firearms are more expensive than high-quality knives. Therefore, by indulging your desire/burning-need for new knives instead of new guns, you are saving money! Try it. It works for me, and I'm hoping to sway my wife with that logic as well.

Why would you feel guilty buying useful tools?? Many people buy totally useless things with no guilt (and they spend much more).
