Do you use a smart phone? If so, download TapaTalk app.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Then, set the app to follow Bladeforums/Himalayan Imports.

I didn't know a person could get notifications. Wouldn't that be like cheating. Sure beats checking the forum every 10 minutes 20 hours a day though.

I live for Yangdu's post, even just to look as I usually do but once in awhile one just grabs ya. Ok about 30 have just grabbed me, maybe 50 but I can't help myself ya know?

Getting notifications when Auntie posts......because I don't obsess over HI enough as it is.

I just downloaded it. Seems free - unless you want to avoid commercials, then you have to pay.

That being said - I have yet to get it to work and receive notifications. It seems to "follow" Bladeforums/Himalayan imports, but all the posts are days old (nothing recent) and I have yet to receive a single notification when Auntie posts. Perhaps I will look on YouTube to see if there is any guidance. Perhaps my iPhone 4s is too old...

It would be cool if this works...

Mateos, I don't wanna give it away, but it's wicked easy. Looks like Chrismachette figured it out too :)

Hint: click Yangdu's name :D

Must just be a tapatalk thing. Can't see anyway to make it an email.

Don't matter I enjoys the hunt and have no where else to go.

I am super busy every day and best way to contact me is via email.
Email to himimp@aol.com for DOTD.

I prefer to be fair and hunt. I think notifications are for cheating on the DOTD's. It isn't all that important, and the fun in DOTD's is the "hunt".

I think "cheating" is too harsh a word, but I can't think of another appropiate word, sorry, my brain isn't functioning no where near optimum without coffee.

The best time to check for DOTD's normally, is 1pm - 3pm PST. But, auntie posts at all times of the day, to give others who live in different time zones, a fair chance at DOTDs too.

I also don't think the spirit of HI supports cheating or easy notification of DOTDs via utilizing apps.

Just my 2 cents.

I also prefer to be fair and what's one person's being smart is another person's cheating.
Thus its safer to go with what the majority of the cool people here think is right according to the spirit of HI.

Fair in my opinion is also letting new people know what the old guys know already. A level playing field it's called, I think. Though one might argue that the old loyal crew might deserve slight advantages.
Anyways, I usually check the HI forum around 0100pm pacific time. Though it can be easily off by an hour or sometimes even midnight. You never know but early afternoon increases your odds quite a bit.
Hope that helps.
:-)

I prefer the hunt style as Cul describes. Since I'm a hunter by nature, that's most of thrill. The product is the trophy. I like hunting things that might get the hunter as well, perhaps I'm a thrill junkie.

While I do agree that the hunt is a lot of the fun, I don't see much wrong with notifications. Heck even with them on it still took me over a half hour to look at the DOD today, and both blades I would have possibly taken were gone already. Life still comes first and I'm often busy, as are others. To me it's like using game cameras and fish finders; might make it easier, but it's still far from a sure thing! Not to mention, it's not like I or anyone else will scoop every blade just cuz we see it first. The bigger my collection grows, the pickier I get.

Then again, I come from a generation of technology. To me, the cheating line would be crossed if one were to write a script which automatically emailed when a certain blade was posted, or something along those lines. Something fully automated.

I really only did it to see how it worked and how effective it is. As I already mentioned, seemingly not very. I'll give it another couple days and probably delete the app, and go back to checking every hour starting at 2pm EST. I get so many notifications for other apps, it probably doesn't do jack.

I've been on the email with Yangu. She's totally misunderstanding this thread thinking people can't get in contact with her, then she explained she can't always post the DOD at a specific time as she is busy or has something else to do.
I just sent my 3rd email trying to explain to her that she's perfect as is, doing nothing wrong and this is a totally different deal.

Ok I offered her 200 a month if she'd privately email me the DOD's prior to posting but some will get through ya know?:D
Ok, that last line was a little white lie and momma says a little white lie never hurt nobody.

But the rest is the truth, the whole truth and mostly the truth.

Auntie is super sweet. :-)

Posting at different times is great. This way everybody gets a chance.
Nobody would ever complain about that I reckon.

I agree the hunt itself is lots of fun.

How would you explain that to her that it was just a new HI fan trying to figure out what's the best way to follow the DOD without actually wanting to change how cool things are?

I don't believe notification is cheating, I just prefer the thrill of the hunt. If I was as busy now like I was as a facilities manager for 400+ QS restaurants, I wouldn't have any HI product. Notifications would have been near the only way I could and I would consider such.

I think I got her understanding it now. Don't muddy the waters. Your right, sweetest lady I ever met but we all confuse her sometimes.

"cheat" isn't really the word Cul meant, as he pointed out in his post. Does it give you a bit of an edge knowing Auntie posted something? Maybe, but you still don't know for sure she posted a DotD. Might have just wished us all a Happy New Year or something ;) Everyone has to come here and read the post and email her to get something. So it isn't any more a cheat than the folks who work from home and keep the forum open practically 24/7 is cheating compared to those who work in an office where they aren't allowed to browse outside the office stuff. That said, I don't see tapatalk as fitting my own personal style of forum usage in the near future. I always seem to get the blade I am looking for when I have funds to get one eventually. The patience and thrill of the chase part is for me just a part of the fun of getting a DOtD DD. So good sharking to everyone tapatalk connected or not .

My oh my, I work in an office and keep us open full time, just have to pop in and out, usually when I'm feeling blue which is a lot lately. Folks that work in real jobs that don't involve computers (lucky dogs) are definitely at a severe disadvantage.
Probably why they use the phone and tapatalk and want to cheat with notifications.

I never thought of myself as a cheater before, but I do now......I hate myself.......I'm soooo ashamed.........I'm lower than a snakes bellybutton..........drug through the dirt and I deserve it...................

I'm logging off for 10 minutes as punishment everyday at midnight.

Mr. B, I work from home and the office, and I keep BF open almost 24/7; however, I only pop in maybe every 2-5 hours, obviously a little more in the early afternoon PST. Of course, when I am out and about, which is quite often, I just keep refreshing every 5-10 minutes on my cell phone in the early afternoon PST. I do have BF notifications setup so that I receive a notification on any thread that I've posted in, so that I can see responses in a timely manner, and answer or read accordingly. The notifications however do not work on any NEW threads such as a DOTD just posted, I have to log onto BF to see those when first posted, just like everyone else. Sometimes when I am "funds" challenged, I purposefully do not go into BF in the early afternoon, so as to not tempt myself...:)
