Hey does anybody know what the RC hardness would be about for O1 quenched at 1460 F and then tempered twice at 400F. The blade is 9" long. Thanks.

Trying to rember. It's been a long time since I worked 0-1. Seems like it calls for 1475 soak, and 400-425 for 60-61 Rc. I'm sure some one will chime in here for help. M. Lovett

Perhaps this info from Starrett will help?

Thanks for posting Chris, I'm afraid that after 30 years, not using 0-1, I was off by a Rc point. Wish my short term memory was this good. Haaa! Starrett is a little different than the usual o-1. and IMHO, a better blend. Starrett is all i used, when using o-1. When fully polished, it is less prone to corrosion than other varieties. don't let the soak time fool you. It 1 Hr. per inch of thickness. in other words, 1/4 stock. apx 15 minutes. Not 1 Hr. All you will accomplishes a carbon loss at the longer temps. If thinly ground, you can get away with less. Try t have your quenching oil around 140 t 170 to prevent shock. IE. Cracks and warpage.
