OK im a outdoors guy and i need a knife. My needs are good camp knife/game knife and i also want a good survival knife. Ive been looking at the tops screaming eagle hunters point with cord handle but since i got ahold of this site im confused now with all the different metals and grinds etc. I want the best knife sor as many uses as possible and i can spend about $200-250 on a knife. Also i want the toughest knife possible for the price

On a side note i need a good knife for the wife also for when we backpack incountry.

I've heard great things about the Cold Steel Trail Master (about $150) with Carbon V steel as being a great value and performs chopping tasks comparably to some of Busses that are more expensive. This would be a good camp and survival knife but not so sure about game knife. You might want something smaller for game. I think JDSpydo has one for sale on the production knives sale forums at a good price.

If you have $200+ you might want to check out some of the Chris Reeve single piece knives. I don't have one but have heard great things about them.

I keep hearing about swamprats and busse but both sites i can only find 1 or 2 knives am i looking in the wrong spot and are these knives of good quality , meaning suited to camp survival game etc , if they are good for camp survival and not game thats fine , what would be a good game knife.

Sorry if i sound confused but i am , i dont want to get discouraged but im not sure where to look.

stainless or not
blade length
handle material
exposed or enclosed tang
coated or not
sawback, serrations
weight
how pointy
do you carry a hatchet or folding saw
camo'd, or something you should be able to spot when dropped
do you want a guard
or a striking end at the butt

do you know how to sharpen

Blade length i would like about 6in.
Handle paracord, micarta, anything that will hold up to abuse
Probably exposed
coated
serrations not sure
wieght under 1lb
pointy enough to get the job done
have both a hatchet and saw
non camo'd
striker on butt would be ok

DOnt know how to sharpen well but if i get a great knife i will buy a great sharpener and learn.

If you look at the swamp rat and busse website their is only 1 knife offered because Swamp rat is in the process of introducing their new line of knives and Busse only offers 1 knife at a time and they go in cycles. In my personal opinion you should look into the Swamp Rat M6 as I have been hearing good things about it and SRK has a good reputation. Since you are willing to spend $200-$250 I am not sure if these are good reccomendations but you may want to look into Ranger knives and Scrap Yard Knives.

you should chek out dozierknives.com
the dozier wilderness might be just what your looking for.........

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

You may be asking too much from one knife. Survival and game for example, may need a heavier knife for the one and a shorter, sharper, more curved blade for the other.

Also, you don't necessarily have to spend a lot to get useful equipment. Take a look at the Cold Steel Bushman as a backup to whatever else you get.

Definitely check out the extensive Bark River selection at http://www.dlttradingcompany.com/ after you've gotten an idea of the kind of knives Bark River Knife & Tool makes ( http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/ ). DLT Trading will have the latest models above and beyond the basic lines on the company website.

I like my M6:

In the future you might find more "Help!!" if you give a more descriptive name for the thread.
