HI Guys,
I was wondering if You could help me answer a question from a Friend of mine...
Here is the question:

"A follow-up question on HI Kat's & Wak's: are the blades convex ground (apple-seed shaped) like the original Japanese blades and most of the newly made counterparts?"

I honestly do not have much knowledge RE: The Edge types and so am not quite sure how to answer this question correctly....

I really am hoping to "Win this Guy over" to the HI Family, so I really appreciate the info in advance!!
Thanks,Ed

The difficulty with answering a question like this is that the individual products will vary a bit, so what's true for mine may not be true for yours.

Mine definitely has a convex cross section, albeit with a slight secondary bevel that's mostly been sharpened off by now - so yes, it's (mostly) convex, but not like a Japanese one. That having been said, if your friend is after an authentic kat or something that looks just like an authentic kat, he probably shouldn't be buying one of these. Don't get me wrong...it handles well, it cuts like crazy and it's built like the proverbial brick outhouse, but it's not Japanese and doesn't pretend to be. These are interpretations of katanas, not replicas.

HI Dave!!
Thanks much for the info.. I let Him know that the E Kat is not 'sposed to be a "Katana", but like You said, HI's Version of a KLO.

Thanks again,
Ed

Thanks for the help with the information.

I have now put the HI Wak on my 'to get' list. :D

Thanks for the Thanks!!
I never cease to be Amazed at the " Names" that some people on the other forums call the HI Blades... One of them called the Everest Katana a "New low"... ahh well... I just have to chalk it up to "Ignorance"?
Not sure what else to call it....
I mean here is the EXACT description from the top of the forum:
"Modern Production Katanas Japanese-styled swords of non-stainless steel manufacture."

And they Still called the HI Blade names...
Sad IMHO
