does anyone know anything about my 1980 limited edition california gold rush set? I would like to sell it.

G'day Denny, If you refer to my last post in the thread regarding the LB8 Variances which I have just re-introduced, you will see my opinion and also photos of the 1980 Gold Rush Set in the first page of the thread. Comprised LB8 Papa Bear and 153UH Golden Spike...both very desirable collectables in their own right. Great Set and reasonably scarce..now 31 years old and should have considerable interest if you were selling... The LB8 at that stage had not been long issued and yours is likely to have low Serial Number?..mine is #20131... Hoo Roo

Hi Larry, thank you for your reply. I have been unable to find any information on them. My sets serial number is SD 026. The LB8 is actually marked LB7.I was thinking of selling them but could not find out what to ask for them. I have all the paper work and it says the set is from a knife shop in San Diego, CA. and that there were only 1000 sets made. Please reply if you know anything else.

how do i go back to your prior post? i am new to the forum and don't know how to do a lot of things

G'day Denny, Just read the Thread 'Comparing LB8 Papa Bear Variations etc....about two threads away from this one on this Forum..there are photos on Page 1 and my comments on Page2...Your Serial number is a tad strange SD?. Salesmans Display??..Special Delivery?? If it was a Salesmans Display it would account for the low number perhaps the salesman's number?...photos would be good...do yours have the individual blade etches 'Gold Rush' depicting the Covered Wagon and galloping horses similar to the thread I've just referred you to?..Hoo Roo

I was disappointed as to the price of the set. Bernard LeVine was going to charge me $25 to appraise a $200 knife, so you helped me out with that. As far as the pictures go i only know how to send them thru e-mail. So if you want to see them send me your e-mail address. Thank you very much. Denny44

G'day Denny, May sound strange however your Schrade Set would likely have fetched more 2 years ago...since the Global Crisis it has been a lot tougher for collectors to convince their spouses that a knife set really is top priority to their household budget and a "Must Have"....and it was hard enough before the crisis...!
I have paid Bernard $25 for an appraisal previously for my 14Kt Gold Perpetual Calendar Schrade Cut Co..and it was money well spent as it established its bona fides as a genuine Schrade Cut Co....that had not been tampered with..however,your set's validity is not in question and it is worth what a willing buyer will pay which I suggest is about US$100 per knife at the moment...should/could/might be worth more later on by holding on to it...the LB8 and 153UH are great Schrade knives in their own right and you could keep that set simply as great examples of USA Schrade Manufacturing when it was firing 'Full Bore'...1980 they had recently acquired I*XL Wostenholm had just introduced their LB7 and other great knives which were to set the knife manufacturing pace for the next 20 Schrade years IMO....there's only one way to ever find out the true current market value of any commodity and that is to put it to the market and make sure that your promotion reaches your potential buyer market....Fleabay usually achieves these aims no matter what our own personal opinions of that auction system which does have flaws and many positives for reaching collectors Worldwide....how many Schrades would I have without Fleabay..when I acquired a lot of my collection I was a mere Colonial Boy on the last tip of Land in Southern Australia just before the South Pole and I had never met another knife collector in my life at that stage.. < as an aside unfortunately the South Pole is now getting even closer to us here in Southern Oz!>...........
My email addy if you wish to show me is larry@penalvagold.net however if you send your photos to Larry Vickery he may not only display your set on his site but also transfer here for all to see....send to: lrvickery@comcast.net and his fantastic site: http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/ I think I am safe in suggesting this as Larry Vickery and I have traded emails about twice a week for the past 5 years. <sometimes more/sometimes less>....and our wives are seriously questioning our relationship!?!
Good luck, & Hoo Roo.
