I've gotten lots of good info and advice by reading these forums so I guess I'll make a stab at sharing some things I've come up with.
I've read about the various sharpening systems available. Every time I decide to spend the money it ends up going to a new knife instead,
so I've learned to live with the old Lansky. I picked up a diamond stone for it for serious metal removal and use the fine and extra fine followed by stropping. I cured the "Lansky blade scar syndrome" by sticking a thin strip of duct tape on the back of the blade where the clamp mounts. This also seems to secure the clamp better. For stropping I've found that Maas metal polish on an old belt works fine. Maas is also excellent for polishing up bolsters and scales, and a good rubbing of it on my old damascus Parker brought out the pattern really well.
For carrying smaller knives that you don't want to scar up with pocket change and keys, the pouches sold by Case for the Russlock and Copperlock work really well. The WH pouch is nice, but a bit pricey.
Hope this isn't all old news and will help someone!
