Surviving the wilds of Bethel requires a good sharp cutting tool.

The knife Marcelo dropper on me was a slab of steel with a very short/steep scandi style, zero ground, single bevel.

Overall it is a quality piece of workmanship.

But, the bevels where so steep,

...It looked to me like someone forgot to grind the primary bevel,

...and there was only a secondary bevel.

No offense to the maker, this knife as delivered would probably baton through concrete blocks.

Marcelo asked me to do a scandi-vex on this otherwise nice knife,

...I think it turned out pretty well.

At least the lack of a sharp knife won't be the thing that gets Marcelo in trouble when he's lost following Tony through the wilderness.

Too bad about the grind as it looks like an otherwise honey of a knife. Looks razor sharp now though. But he better be playing with the challenge knives and not this one yet :D

I'm going to put this one throught the Bushcraft Knife Challenge test protocol before he gets hold of it. :D

I must add:

The only reason I worked on Marcelo's knife today,

...instead of testing more Bushcraft Challange Knives,

...is because I can't get the boys to cut loose with more knives!

Friggin' Knife Nazi's. :jerkit:

You definitely need to hold this one hostage then!

Being the local go to knife grinder/re-profiler/sharpener,

...I always like to hold a knife or two hostage.

I do have several of Marcelo's knives in my greedy hands,

...and I hate giving them up. :o

That is really nice distinctive color and grain on the wood. Looks like cork. Bet that edge will pop a hair or 2.

Man, It must have had a steep grind ... I'd still take more off .. but obviously it isn't in my hands.

If It was mine it would have a hull height convex bevel,

...but as it is, the scandi-vex grind is a very aggressive cutter.

Only Marcelo can decide what he prefers, I can always remove more steel. :D

NOOOIIIIIIICCCCEEEEE!!!!

That looks terrific Mike! I'll be around early tomorrow if you want to go for a quick hike in the morning. We can swap out knives and you can lay the newly ground knife on me.

BTW the scales are Lime Burr

Huh? I'm the navigator on our epic voyages  Did you know I descend from ancient milanese cartographers?

Looks like a great job on the blade Mike, a nice looking knife all around. It seem you guys didn't get lost after all, lucky you had the dogs along maybe :-) So how did Marcelo like the new edge?
