Hemlock Green Jig bone is not quite green....lol

I'm fairly sure, off the top of my head, that there was a OD green micarta 66 in the last run.

Hemlock green is one of GEC's many code words for "some kind of brown". Antique yellow is another. :)

Hemlock green is my favorite red GEC does. Blood red can have pink near the bolsters and Hemlock usually is dark near bolsters.

I asked Bill Howard about this particular color, and he assured me there was green in the dye. He pointed out that hemlocks are red just under the bark, and that's the reason for the red in the dye. Green and red would combine to make the primary brownish shade, but the red definitely sticks out along the bolsters.

Either way, I love the color, and it's perhaps my favorite 66.

I love the color, but I also love the color's name! I hope GEC never changes it. It's like an insider's thing.:thumbsup:

I really like the 66. Surprising it doesn’t get as much love as the other smaller GECs.
I suppose it depends how you measure "love". ;) I searched for titles of threads in the traditional subforum that contained "66" and got 43 threads, including these that have quite a few posts in each:

I think that the weak secondary springs put a bit of a crimp in the sales of the last run...just my opinion. Even so, it’s amazing to me that these can still be found on dealers’ shelves. I just bought an Antique Autumn Tidioute Calf Roper and it’s beautiful! Just crazy that these are still available. Do yourself a favor and grab one.
Regarding the color, I like the “inside joke” aspect and hope they don’t change it. The last run of Vipers had one of these as a handle choice, but it was termed simply “Hemlock”...no green in the name.

First I have to say that the 66 calf roper was the stockman pattern that got my attention in all these years. Such a great knife for EDC in fact I did a little mini-review on it HERE.

From Wikipedia:
Conium maculatum is an herbaceous biennial flowering plant that grows to 1.5–2.5 m (5–8 ft) tall, with a smooth, green, hollow stem, usually spotted or streaked with red or purple on the lower half of the stem.

I have a green hemlock 66, and I absolutely love the color, and I like that it really does have the dye colors of a poison hemlock plant. Pretty cool.
