Just bought a Hen and Rooster Stockman with Solingen steel blades. Just curious if this blade will rust and what the best way to keep it looking good. I plan on carrying it and using it. Any info is appreciated.

Solingen steel is usually straight carbon steel(1095). Just oil it with a good oil,
and you should be fine:).

P.S., I like Mineral oil.

Look for the word "Rostfrei" somewhere on one of the blades. If it doesnt say that, it is carbon steel. Good carbon steel that will take and hold a great edge. It will also turn all kinds of colors when you cut up fruit and stuff, so take care to wipe the blades off and oil them. Hen & Rooster is one of my favs.

It just means it's Stainless steel:). H & R uses one of the 400 series steels, it use to be 440c, but I'm not sure if they changed it. The stuff is very stain resistant, but it does not develop the neat aging character Carbon steel does.

Also, if the Stag takes on a dry appearence, etc...., just let it sit with a bit of oil on it. It will liven it up, and give it a more yellowed appearence.

Nothing wrong with the stainless steel Hen & Rooster uses. It might not be as good as their carbon steel, but it beats the stainless from Case and Schrade, at least in my book. It seems like it sharpens up easier. Maybe it's the fact that they forge their stainless blades?

I just purchased this Hen and Rooster and I already love it, although I haven't actually started carrying it yet. I'm kinda glad it is Stainless because in it's recent state of "shine"....it's beautiful! Maybe after a few months of actual use I'll have a better idea of durability and performance.
