I am interested in buying a whittler. Can anyone comment on the quality of H&R vs Boker whittlers. Both whittlers have Solingen Carbon steel blades and bone handles. How do they compare in fit and finish, durability etc. Is H&R considered a better company then Boker?

I really can't tell you which would be the better knife. I can tell you that I was very pleased with the Warranty/Repair service I received from Boker. The fit and finish on the Boker Traper I have is first class.

I don't know this for a fact, but I think I remember reading that Boker uses 1095 and H&R uses 1085... Again, I am not certain of this.

Both are made by Boker, thus I expect they would be fairly close in f/f. Olbertz makes some of the HR models, but the whittler is a Boker I believe.

I don't have H&R so I cannot comment on it, but I have Boker whittler, and the fit and finish is great, and it develop a nice patina. Boker use C75 carbon, and someone here said it's comparable to 1075, its stay sharp long enough for my daily light task.

i have a H?R, and it's a good knife, but IMO the ricasso (kick) takes up too much of the usable blade length on the main blade, and the blades themselves are pretty thick. Never had the Boker.

the newer h&r knives made by Boker are fairly nice for the price i picked up a 3 blade whittler once w/ cracked ice handles for $25 new on EBAY, dunno if you could find one that cheap but i wouldn't pay too much more than that unless it's pearl. If you can find an original h&r whittler (made before 1980) i would recommend that over a Boker, however good luck finding one for under $100
