Hen & Rooster Clarification

I’ve done quite a bit of research, talked to several dealers, but I thought I’d ask the crowd that actually knows.

I only have two Hen & Roosters. Both came in the dark green box marked “Made In Germany”. The knives were wrapped in paper with the Hen & Rooster logo all over it.

Both knives are stamped “Bertram” with “Made In Germany” stamped below it. On the reverse of the blades it is stamped “Surgical Stainless” with “Solingen, Germany” underneath that. I’ve tried to get pics but they don’t come out good due to the glare off of the stainless.

So, are these really what they claim to be, or something entirely different?

The fit & finish on both are top notch but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything I know.

In the big scheme of things it doesn’t matter much to me. I’d just like for our resident experts give their perspective.

As always, thanks in advance.

From what I've been told those marked solingen are made there and those which just say Germany are said to be partially Chinese in some way.
It's really hard to get a straight story though.

I'm just putting this put there so it can be confirmed or disputed by anyone who knows for sure.

I’ve read Frost, and A.G. Russell in my research. I suppose it’ll remain a mystery, not that I really care.

You’d think there wouldn’t be so much confusion over a $65.00 to $80.00 pocket knife. If it’s Chinese….just mark it as such and let the public set the market for it. Being deceptive gives one cause for concern.

Frost cutlery has owned H&R for awhile now , but Jim Frost recently died , so who knows what might change.

What I've always heard is assembled in Germany from Chinese components for the " Hen & Rooster Germany " knives, and I think those are the ones you'll see frost offer on their show in the $30 range.
Maybe the Solingen knives are those found for $60+, or many dealers are just charging too much ?

What to you think they claim to be? If they are marked Bertram Cutlery they are from after 1980 when Frost took over the name. They are marked Solingen but who knows for sure..... Quality is nowhere the earlier knives made by Bertram.
