Hen & Rooster knives?

I am interested in purchasing a Hen&Rooster trapper or mini-trapper with mother of pearl handles. Is the quality of Hen&Rooster line like it used to be? What about the quality of the 440 steel that is used by Hen&Rooster? What would be a good price for a new trapper or mini-trapper with mother of pearl handles? All opinions appreciated.
Thanks, Big D1

Hen & Rooster traditionals are - along with Queen's Schatt & Morgan line - pretty much the best you can buy, without going the custom route. Their German Solingen blades compare quite favorably to other makes, unless you can find a "99 or 2000 Schatt in ATS34. There's a pearl trapper and whittler on E-bay right now...ya never know, they might go fairly cheap (but there IS a reserve price). Also, SMKW has a nice selection of H & R. Pearl is selling high right now. I'd be prepared to pay upwards of $75. Hope I helped a little.

I have several newer H&R's, all purchased within the past seven years. Beautiful, high quality knives. You can't go wrong with Smoky Mountain; if it's not what you expected, return it.
