I purchased my father a H&R cowboy bowie w/ stag handles for christmas .
Are these knives good or junk ?

Not junk, pretty good knives. If it's one of the newer fixed blades, it is made in Toledo, Spain. Hen and Rooster pocketknives are made either by Olbertz or Boker in Solingen, Germany.

Some very nice Hen&Rooster pocket knives with an assortment of handles, made with Solingen carbon-steel or stainless in Germany. Often as good as Case sometimes better, much choice too.

I bought a H & R Stockman (full size) with stag scales and carbon steel in 1963 for $10.00. I sure wish I never lost that one! If their current quality is half of what it was then...you got a nice knife (or do I just remember it being really good...?)

I liked them, till they sold out to frost cutlery. From what i have seen lately i think their quality has went downhill,in fit&finish, but maybe i'm paranoid.Frost cutlery has never been known as a quality leader, but if you just bought it for a gift that will be put up and not used,i would say it was a good choice.
