This knife was in the AG Russell weekly special a few weeks ago. The website cliams it to be a very high quality knife. Does anyone know anything about these? What makes these such high quality compared to other slipjoints?

A.G. Russell owned H&R prior to 1981 (or there about). The H&R brand name continues today. The pre-1981 slip joints are probably of a higher quality than the ones produced by the current factory...however, I personally have owned both pre and post 1981 H&R's and would admit the fit & finish are better on the pre's...but not enough to justify the price in the AGR catalog.

My guess is the high price is due more to the rarity of the knives vs the actual quality. The blade steel in both pre and post 1981 H&R slip joints is nothing special.
