Are the Hen&Roosters that are made by frost cutlery as good as the REAL Hen&Roosters that aren't made anymore? It seems unlikely because of the difference in price. Can anyone who has handled a REAL older one and a newer currently made one please give me their opinion.

Thanks!

You're kidding, right?

Anything made by Frost cutlery isn't worth using as a door stop!

How can I tell the difference between the frost H&Rs and the real ones??

Thanks!

If I am not mistaken Frost do not make the current line of Hen & Rooster Knives. They are made by a Solingen based company called Robert Klaas Co. who have been around for a long time and make some pretty nice knives. The line Robert Klaas Co. is best known for is Kissing Cranes knives.

Hen & Rooster knives are still darn good knives, but if you can get some of the originals you will have a nicer knife. Check out the link below.

This is Cutting Edge and it is part of A.G. Russell Knives, a great company for the knife enthusiast.

The knives listed are all original Hen & Rooster.

Keith has it pegged. The new H&R's are nice slip joints for the money. Frost is the sole importer and may own the name now, but they (Frost) do not make them.

Wow i did not realize frost knives were so bad i have a Frost flying Falcon cockfighter. I do not use it, someone gave it to me about six years ago, that is how i became intersted in knives. It is a sharp looing knife, the one thing i do not care for is there is not a lock on it.

At best Frost knives are average and at worst they are downright junk. They make a wide variety of knives, some as low as a couple of dollars.

I also hate that Frost Wood they use for a lot of their handles. It looks cheap to me.

A stag H&R is my EDC pocket knife, I rotate between 3 of them. One thing to notice about the newer made H&R's is to check if the shield is pinned on. This is a personal quirk of mine (I dont like my shields falling off). I noticed on many of the new ones they are not pinned. It varies between models. I once heard that they are being made by two different knife co.'s one is R.Klass and I am not sure of the other, Frost could have whoever doing these...

I use my H&R's everyday and they have held up great...I would personally take one of these over say a Case knife anyday of the week.

Another BEST choice would be a Queen made knife...Most people dont realilize how many different knife co.'s have had Queen make them their knives for them.

I'm starting to lean toward a Bulldog knife. After all that I've heard Buzzbait say about them, I don't think I could go wrong with a Bulldog.

Jefroman,

Check out the Schatt & Morgan line in addition to the Hen and Rooster and Bulldog. My personal rating of these slipjoints in curretn production:

1. Schatt & Morgan

2. Hen and Rooster

3. Bulldog

4. Case

I like a Case knife, but their fit and finish leaves something to be desired on a consistency basis. Queen Cutlery makes the Schatt & Morgan line and I have not been disappointed with them. Bulldogs are very good, but I have not seen the consistency for them. They are the best value for your dollar.

Just my opinions-yours may vary! :D
