What I have here is a NEW Henckels 12 piece set that was originally a 13 piece FORGED International Synergy set (the shears are now missing) that was set up as a display. Do not confuse these knives with the much lower quality and less expensive Henckels Synergy "Fine Edge" series which is their stamped steel low end line of cutlery. This set of Forged Synergy International series knives is their most affordable line that is forged using German stainless steel, although they are not made in Germany. Also, you can't tell in the pictures, but there are three unused slots in the block to allow for the addition of three knives and expansion in the future, as well as the empty spot for the kitchen shears.

The knives do show some nicks and small scratches from being pulled in and out of the block and handled. I would also sharpen them real good before I started using them full time, although others may think they are sharp enough the way they are. I also want to add that the 7" Santoku knife has a hairline crack around the front part of the non-stainless part of the handle material. I do not think it will ever have any effect on anything, but I don't won't to misrepresent something. Also, the block itself shows expected minor wear around the slots from people removing and replacing the knives.

I don't know where they were made for sure, because they do not say on the blade like others I have had. All of the literature I have read just says they are forged from German Stainless Steel in one of Henckels oversees factories. I suspect they are made in either Spain or China. I will try and find out.
