I was given a hennessy Survivor GSA for Christmas im using it as I type this its 29 degrees and almost a foot of snow on the ground here in NC. Its pretty warm when you use a pad and a good sleeping bag. Im using an REI Self inflator oad with a 7 r value and the outer skeeping bag of the us militarys sleeping bag system. For clothing im just using polypros as an under layer and jeans and a woolypully. Im going to try and take some photos to put up.

Congrats! Are you using an underquilt? I haven't tried one yet, but plan to just rig up a poncho liner. Even with a decent pad, sleeping bag and thermal underwear, my comfort rating only goes to the mid 30's...after that the hammock loses appeal and I lose sleep:D

I camped with a guy last summer who used the windshield sun shield from a truck for insulation in his Henessey. He said is worked well, and I thought it was pretty resourceful.

That is basically what the Super Shelter is. So many people said that they were using them with a Hennessy that they custom made one to fit with the hammocks. I know guys who have used the AMK Thermolite 2.0 Bivvy with similar results.

Well I took photos... Then Slipped on some Ice and broke the camera....:( so I will buy a new camera this weekend :) and set the hammock up again :) and have a re-do I dont have an underquilt but I used an REI self inflate pad with a r value of 7 kept me warm but its hard to get settled on it I want a under and top quilt that are good to 0f and wont bust the bank and are small and packable... My gut telks me to keep dreaming. Anyonw here have the kickass quilt? By arrowhead? Speer has a nuce quilt that wraps around its on SALE for $350.....cant do that right now

check out hammock forums. lots of great info and tips on making your own underquilt or pad for cooler weather.

I'm going to side with Rock on this one. For me, it just seems that all the elaborate add ons to winterize a hammock completely counteract the main advantage of the hammock which is its basic simplicity. In the deep winter, throw down a ground sheet, pad and sleeping bag with a simple a tarp set-up. Easy as pie with the right sleeping bag and easy to supplement/adjust the pad's R-value with natural insulation to suit conditions.

I do congratulate the hardy souls who keep pushing the limits of their hammock sleep systems, but I can't say I understand it. I love hammock camping in 3 seasons.
