Herbst or Ocelot?

After lurking off and on for a few years here goes my first post. Looking to get my first Spyderco folder. A dealer has two discontinued models of interest -the C53P Herbst (ATS-55) and the Ocelot. I liked them both but can only afford one right now. Basically looking for a general purpose non "scary" carry for days when I'm not in the office. The dealer also has a Kershaw Blur, but it just didn't float my boat.

Thanks in advance!

Get the Herbst,it's a bit lighter(way better pocket feel) and imho looks a little more classy and less threatening

BITEME - Thanks. They both feel good in hand. I understand what you mean about the Herbst appearances and carry. Had some concerns that the Herbst didn't seem to have as enthusiastic a following as the Ocelot seems to have. This would basically be my first non-Benchmade for regular carry.

I have one of the Herbst seconds and it's a nice knife. Don't own an Ocelot but one complaint I've seen on the forums is that the paw prints are a crud magnet.

I personally like the ergos of the Herbst. Been pining for one of the Ti versions for years...

I looked at a used Ocelot at a show recently - and Harry is right - the Paw Print holes really seem to attract dust, lint, and other "ocelot jam".

Got to the store too late - both gone. Dealer is going out of business and the stock is pretty picked over. A few Kopas left. Snooze, lose.

Thanks for the input - that Herbst would have been the choice.

I do not think that any of these two have significant following. I was couple time close to pull the trigger on Herbst, but never did. I think there are quite a few Spydercos, which are better EDCs

Sorry to hear this. Kopas are not bad, actually very good, great ergos and they are getting hotter lately. May be you should consider one if price is decent.

Buck, I think I know the store you're referring to. Let's just say that I acquired a major Spyderco collection over several visits there recently. And, one of them was the Herbst, a VERY nice knife indeed. I should post a picture of all those Spydies that I rescued. The Ocelot was on my third tier list, but I never got back there for it.

Error:

Yes, I believe we've been to the same establishment. Congratulations on your purchase(s). I've enjoyed that store for years and am sad they're going out, but as my neighbor says "There's not a wind that blows that isn't good for somebody."

I tried the Ocelot again, and it didn't feel so satisfying in hand the 2nd time around. Now thinking about a Kopa, but probably should keep "the spendies" in check...or not.
