Here are Larry photos, and his original post below.

G'Day Tim,
Photobucket just doesnt seem to want to upload for me,I am not on Broadband yet going on next week. I have 5 photos to support a story on a proto fixed blade that I purchased from factory clearout that was actively discussed on this forum at the time as to whether it was a genuine Old Timer or not, being a variation flat grind between a 160OT MountainLion and 165 Woodsman.I was the buyer and believe it or not I used to read the forum at the time but not participate as I did not believe I knew enough to contribute info. I have taken photos next to 160 and 165 and it is different in every way possible so may be a proto or at least a 'lunch time special 'as was suggested by a member.
It was the posting 4th July 06 under "Another item on Ebay"
The member who doesnt post on here at present ,suggested I was loopy to pay US $35 for it. You blokes can be the judge as it is definately a Schrade Old Timer.,and I reckon good value as a variant.
I collect mainly folders however my photos will show a fair selection of Mint Schrade Fixed blades,I have..
Message for Larry Vickery. Those mint 2OT and 3OT from the Conference room wall listed under "Something Special" on your excellent forum,I am honoured to say are actually now mine, purchased privately like a lot of my knives....
I will post some more photos and some special folders from the 'walls' as well.,if I ever work out how to post these blasted photos.
Question: Does anyone have any more history than is in Mr Robert Clemente's book on the elusive 2OT and more particularly the original 3OT which doesnt get a mention.Hoo Roo

That's great Larry! It looks like you have a good Fix on where you are going with your collection. Keep-em comin.

Larry, Clemente's book is as it's title suggests, a compilation of information about Uncle Henry and Old Timer knives gleaned from the listings in the catalogs. A lot of knife variants didn't appear there, and all of the catalogs we have available today were not available then. Thus a few blank spots.

Larry,
VERY nice collection!! I've never seen such a large collection of fixed blade Schrades in one photo, beautiful. Quick question, what is that sort of semi drop point job, second to last from the bottom, in the last photo? Is that the proto?

Eric

Great to see another lover of the fixed blades on here.I thought me and a couple of others were all that were left.Nice group of knives.Arnold

Larry,
Nice..
Great news on the 2 and 3 OT.
Congrats.

Larry, Nice set of knives you have put together there, can you tell me what model is in the last photo second up from the bottom, in between the 160OT and the 165OT, I can't seem to identify it. Thanks

Rusty1

Same for me Larry what is THAT, never seen one before !!! Must be rare as hens teeth, Im sure being an Aussie you know how rare hens teeth are.
Cheers Tim

....Nice knives and so dumb I cant post photos! I found another drawer full of 152's and guthooks etc after I took the photo. but wasnt getting them all out again have to wipe and oil each one!
There was another 6th photo Tim that showed close up of the 'lunch time knock up' with the 160 and 165 top profile. It was from most reputable Schrade dealer selling close- out finds and I find it hard to believe it was simply a regrind from a 160 or 165.
Second knife up from bottom photo. Blade is flat grind, handle is different length and shape, and bolsters completely different shape and smaller which I tried to show in photos.Definately an Old Timer and may be an apprentices plaything in the workshop however still interesting variant.NO TANG STAMP.
I remember chuckling when you guys were discussing my knife and calling me loopy for paying $35! back in July 06 under heading "Another Ebay Item",cos I know I'm loopy but thought I kept it a pretty good secret!
Thought you might be interested to see it in comparison with its brothers. Hoo Roo

Hope thats the one you were after Larry (above included in your pics)? let me know if its not. Wish I could comment more on your rare one Larry, I just dont know. Anyone???
Kind Regards Tim

Has anyone noticed the similarity in the external dimensions of a 153UH and a 160 Mountian Lion blade as below in pic??

Thanks Tim thats the one it gives an accurate picture of the difference between the bolsters..the 165 is on the left,'knock up' in the centre and 160 on the right.
Great photos above and you're right about similarities.
I'v got to get a life I could sit and gaze at Schrades all day!!! Hoo Roo

I dont know what year, but keep a watch on ebay there have been at least around 5 maybe many more in last 12 months. Shouldnt be too hard to find one if you keep looking. $70 to $100 US is a ball park figure for price.

Have I showed you these pics of some of my fixed blades? I'm contemplating selling them and just concentrating on folding knives but haven't decided. These sure are pretty.

I think they're all the same knife (with the exception of the middle one) with different handles. I just haven't really gotten the bug for fixed blades yet. It might change....I always do like a good deer skinning knife. All stamped Schrade+DU. If you'd like, I could try and take better pictures. I don't think this set is seen much and I've never seen it on E-Bay.

If I had a set like that I would be delighted with it, I also have never seen another one like it. Im almost certain the bowie is worth about $1000 to $1200 in set which is same as the Pearl harbour bowies (in set), Its only an opinion but I would say its worth around $2000 plus. WW2 pearl harbour sets retailed for around $3000 US when the were available. i think yours is rarer but has 2 less knives than these.
If you want to sell it on ebay be careful you probably would not get that for it as many punters often dont know real value and if they do they want it at bargain price.
Keep it, its gorgeuos !!! Put them closer together take a few nice photos, frame it and hang it up on your wall.
You probably need an expert opinion on this, I am not an expert.
Cheers Tim

Tim,

Any idea what year the DU 160 was from? I really like that knife.

Marc

Here is what I found on that particular DU160:
Schrade New Item Listing said:
Special 160 pattern with Uncle Henry Staglon Handles, Stainless Blade, Brass Guard, Ducks Unlimited Shield in Handle (Same size and shape as UH Shield) and Ducks Unlimited Blade Etch. Part of DU Raffle Set DUA201.

Req. Ship Date: Start 11/00 Qty. 3,500

As you can see, neither of these blades sport the DU blade etches. I'm looking for the records on the Fibron handled version.

Michael

Thanks for the info Michael. I am constantly amazed at what is a huge number of collectibles within Schrade as well as the vast amount of knowledge that exists on this site. I am glad that it doesn't cost here but it would be worth every penny with the education I'm receiving. I recently picked up a DU raffle set (with the 152OT, LB7 and 877) in the original DU raffle case. These are pretty interesting sets. Had a friend who told me that the majority of local DU committees would break the individual knives out and raffle them individually so to get one that is complete is somewhat harder to get. At least that's the way he said it was done around here.
