  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Right then. After years of mucking about on the fringes, here is my first completed blade - a paring knife for my chef bro-in-law, who has promised to subject it to, ahem, “rigorous testing”.

3mm O1 tool steel, 4” blade, 8” OAL, handle is Purple Heart, green fibreboard, and an Ash burl (from my garden) held together with brass rod. Made with files, sandpaper, a knackered grinding wheel, my drill and a Dremel. Heat-treated in my two-brick, and quenched in veg oil.

It’s silly-sharp, so it’s functional, but my aim is to improve fit and finish for the next one. Got lots of supplies on the way...
