I've made the leap into the world of bushcraft fixed blades with a self-Christmas present of a BK-2. I immediately scoured the web for upgrades. It turns out, any google search that includes "BK2" will land you at this site. So, I've spent lots of time here researching the wisdom of these so called "Beckerheads."

Here's what I've done:

* Stripped (Aircraft paint remover)
* Patina (lemon juice, brown mustard)
* Micarta scales
* Tek-lok (removed flimsy nylon)
* Spyderco Shapemaker

Now, I'm researching a replacement sheath. During the search, I kept circling back to the Hedgehog Leatherworks Sheath for the BK2.

What a beautiful sheath. I want it so bad. I just can't afford it :(

I have no doubt the sheath is worth every penny. In fact, I watched the excellent video from Ian Atkinson of Leodis Leather showing all that's involved in creating such a sheath. If you haven't seen this video, I highly recommend it. There's a lot of skill and attention to detail that I simply couldn't have appreciated without watching the process.

I, also, recommend Ian's video on hand-stitching leather.

These are long videos, over an hour; yet, they're full of interesting aspects in this craft that you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere outside of an apprenticeship in leatherworking. In other words, time flies and you gain some useful knowledge.

With that said, I'm still considering either the sheath from Hedgehog or the beautiful KCR Deluxe Scout Sheath from Sagewood Gear.

After watching the videos from Ian, I'm not quite sure how Sagewood can make such an excellent sheath and sell it for the price that they do. It's a very good deal. I think I'm leaning this way and just need to stop thinking about it.

Anyway, like I said...Here I am, Take My Money. I'm hooked. Once I order the sheath, I'll start obsessing about my next Becker. Bigger? Smaller?

Oh, and thanks to everyone for this forum. It's a very knowledgeable community. I have so much to learn.

Welcome! Now you need a 9. If you don't think that you need a 9 just yet, wait until BiggHoss gets on here. You will live longer with a BK9. Your enemies will disappear. There will be no obstacles in front of you. You will get 50% off of bagels (or was it muffins?) at a certain shop in the woods. You NEED a 9!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new BK2, also my first. It's a hell of a nice knife.

Thanks for the Welcome. I was considering the BK9...or the BK11...or both. I could use the bagel discount after I get a sheath for the BK2.

The BK9 is a hell of a blade too. It's my most used Becker.

Welcome to the madness! The 2 was also my first, but you won't go wrong with a 9, 11, 16, 15, 5... or pretty much any other Becker!

there is such a thing as a pull start Becker, but you'll have to talk to the ladies in his life about that

Do you recommend horizontal or vertical carry for the pull start? I'll need to get a kydex sheath with a gas tank pouch accessory.

Just about spat out a whole lot of sunflower seeds! Thanks for the laugh!

Tadhoo, welcome to the forums and the madness!

Nice 2. Your BK-2 is so fat... Wait. Wrong thread. Welcome!

Yes, welcome to the forum!

And if memory serves, it was apple fritters...and they might even be free. But don't quote me.

Woot! Congrats on getting a BK2. That was my first Becker and I absolutely love mine as well. They beg to be modified and can handle just about anything.

Welcome to the forum! I rarely go anywhere without my 2....great blade! You should consider making your own sheath--leather working is not nearly as hard as it looks, as long as you have the right tools, and lots of patience!

Welcome to our corner of the asylum! Sagewood makes some of the best leather sheaths on the planet, and you certainly will not regret ordering anything from him. Plus his stuff is much more modular than the hedgehog leatherworks sheath, although both are incredibly well made. Either way, welcome to Becker Knife and Tool, stick around and get that knife addiction started good and proper!

I'm strongly considering trying my hand at leather sheath making. It seems like a hobby I would enjoy. I've spent lots of time looking for something very specific and I haven't seen it in the various sheath designs out there. Stay tuned.

Glad to see you around, D. I thought maybe the bad water had gotten you.

Very nice BK2 you have there.

I just did.

It was a free apple fritter at a mysterious dougnut shop deep in the wilderness for BK9 owners...if you can find the place.
