D6? Never even heard of that one. I thought the D series only went to 5?

I've been corresponding with Brazilian knife maker Ivan Campos, whose Mod. 150 Standard tanto is en route to my door. He uses K-100, which he says is the same as D6 tool steel, very tough, highly rust resistant. So I wondered what the specs were.

I ran across this table when determining of what type of steel Puma knives were made. It is good for the European steels particularly. Another good table can be found here

The D series of steels goes at least from D1 through D7. Details of elemental composition can be found here

If you wish to find out information about a particular steel, there are two major search engines I have found useful.

One is Mat Web Online: here

The other is Principal Metals, here

A great deal of data similar to (and including some of) the above are to be found in BFC's excellent Knife FAQs here . Be sure and not miss Joe Talmadge's superb Steel FAQs in this section. Joe lists several other steel type tables.

Hope this helps. Walt
