BAHADUR KNIFE BY SANTOSH KAMI

Overall length --15 1/4''
Weight --23 oz
Spine thickness--3/8''
Horn handle with a tube
Leather scabbard with a white metal tip

Those are the stats from the DOTD, thought I'd go ahead and re-state them for all of you for reference as a start. The scabbard that came with it was a nice, brown, textured leather with a white metal tip. It looks pretty nice and is well made. Here is the knife in the scabbard:

It has a nice, fullered blade. The fullers and the heavy tang and chiruwa construction lend the knife a very nice balance. It has a nice feel in the hand and I am thinking it would be a great knife for the kitchen. It has many features that makes me think of a Tamang too. It has the same sort of balance and feels pretty light. It even has a similar shape to one...

The horn handle has some really nice grays and translucent areas in it too. It is a sweet piece of horn and it really looks nice. The shape of the handle also feels really good in the hand. There is a little finger groove that fits me perfectly and a hook to the end of it to aid in retention. I may even put a decorative lanyard on it if I find a nice, Nepal themed one to use...

If it wasn't so hot out these days, I would give you all a review on the chopping ability of the blade too. It seems to me like it would handle like a Tamang in function. Perhaps being a bit heavier it could handle some of the heavier chopping chores too. It is an overall pleasing purchase and I hope more will be forthcoming since I am sure there are a number of you all that will be wanting them. It would no doubt serve in a defense situation as well. Like I say, it is a heavier, shiny, Tamang and it is a great design from Santosh's former friend.

I really like the look of this new knife. Pretty upset I missed the one today, no sheath doesn't bother me. I usually make a kydex one for field khuks anyway. Really interested in how it chops. Looks like it could about match my custom handled pen knife I use almost daily. They are extremely capable little khuks for those who aren't familiar with them. Warty looking for to a use update.

By the way, found very similar model at Khukri House but pretty sure the quality isn't there. Gotta stick with HI they are tough as nails

I might have to pick up one of these to replace the AK bowie my dad "borrowed" from me a few years ago;)

I miss that knife dearly.

Andrew, if that had been a wood handle, it would have been mine. As it stands I gave it a long 10 count to consider re-handling it. I'm gonna wait till my M43 gets here to make my final decision on horn.

if that had been a wood handle, it would have been mine.

I also would like to see a wood handled version! Thanks for the review Warty! BTW, what is the difference in spine thickness between the tamang and the bahdur? Thanks!

Warty,
Can you give us a pic of the spine/tang?

or may be a comparison between the Bahadur and Tamang's field performance/capabilities ...
...or I'm pushing it too far?:D

Ken Onion made this knife. Here is what He has to say about it.

This knife, believe it or not is my pig knife .I use it for hunting pigs .I know it's not what most would use for a stabbing knife but I use it for clearing trail too. Thats why I've straightened it out from the conventional Kukri. So I can stab and chop in one knife. It works really well too.

Oh the knife is D2 1/4 inch thick has roughly I think 9-10 inch blade hollow /convex grind , Rabett tang, black canvas micarta handle with flares about 5 3/4 "and a kydex breakaway sheath. I never intended to sell it, I built it for me (knifemaking has it's perks) - Ken Onion
