BAHADUR KNIFE BY SANTOSH KAMI
Overall length --15 1/4''
Weight --23 oz
Spine thickness--3/8''
Horn handle with a tube
Leather scabbard with a white metal tip
Those are the stats from the DOTD, thought I'd go ahead and re-state them for all of you for reference as a start. The scabbard that came with it was a nice, brown, textured leather with a white metal tip. It looks pretty nice and is well made. Here is the knife in the scabbard:
It has a nice, fullered blade. The fullers and the heavy tang and chiruwa construction lend the knife a very nice balance. It has a nice feel in the hand and I am thinking it would be a great knife for the kitchen. It has many features that makes me think of a Tamang too. It has the same sort of balance and feels pretty light. It even has a similar shape to one...
here it is out of the scabbard...
showing off the fuller...
in hand...
The horn handle has some really nice grays and translucent areas in it too. It is a sweet piece of horn and it really looks nice. The shape of the handle also feels really good in the hand. There is a little finger groove that fits me perfectly and a hook to the end of it to aid in retention. I may even put a decorative lanyard on it if I find a nice, Nepal themed one to use...
If it wasn't so hot out these days, I would give you all a review on the chopping ability of the blade too. It seems to me like it would handle like a Tamang in function. Perhaps being a bit heavier it could handle some of the heavier chopping chores too. It is an overall pleasing purchase and I hope more will be forthcoming since I am sure there are a number of you all that will be wanting them. It would no doubt serve in a defense situation as well. Like I say, it is a heavier, shiny, Tamang and it is a great design from Santosh's former friend.
