Here is my "Embellishment" question.

sll damascus has a pattern. Depending on what pattern shows, this is how it is named. Ladder, mosaic, etc just reflect what ou can see.
 
I always thought damascus was just a folding over of different types of steels many times. I never realized you could get all these unique patterns.

Are they as tough as regular damascus (the multiple layer kind that has 1,000 layers)?

I can see how they come up with these patterns. They look like they are etched onto a steel blade they are so unique in character.
