Here is a most unusual model from a mil. run that was started a couple of years ago. We made this monster run of SR-101 blades before the demise of our specialized equipment that was needed to heat treat SR-101! This knife design was not typical of what we had come to expect from a mil. run until you understand the list of criteria and priorities that we were given to work with.
Here are the criteria we were given: These knives will be deployed in a harsh desert battlefield environment. The knife needs to be as lightweight as possible without sacrificing the strength it needs to perform daily chores. It needs a fine slicing edge as opposed to a much more robust edge as we would normally shoot for. The knife needs to be slender in profile in order to be easily accessible and not overly cumbersome during intense battlefield conditions.
Here are the specs for the "Desert Patrol".
Desert Patrol Specs:
Blade Length: Approx. 5 7/8"
Overall Length: Approx. 10 3/4"
Blade Thickness: Approx. 1/8"
Blade Finish: Desert Sage Coated
Weight: Approx. 7.3 Ounces
Bevel: High Saber
Handle Material: Tan Canvas Micarta
Steel: SR-101
Hardness: 58-60 Rc
Here's a pic of the last batch getting ready to head overseas! These are all stacks of three!
