Now that I'm home I thought it would make good sense to post a picture comparison of my pig stickers, specifically my shiv, pig gladius, and pig sword. My wife was somehow not at all impressed when I pulled the pig sword out of my luggage yesterday evening, but that's a good thing because I can generally get a good feel for the quality of a knife based on the percussion of her facepalm. 🤣

that gladius is ridonkulous. good thing for my bank account the regular production shivs aren't like that.

is there a mechanical reason the top edge starts further forward than the bottom on all the double-edged shiv variants? (even taking into account the thumb ramp / guard is further forward than the bottom choil / guard)

There's a couple reasons. One, I usually avoid lining up a potential stress riser like that when I can. For example, I don't line up the notch with the thinnest part of the plunge like many makers, for this reason. I form a dropped edge that is unlikely to break. And this is not a symmetrical design like a symmetrical dagger so it makes sense to offset the plunges.

Two, if you should put your thumb a little too far forward, you'll be glad it's not sharp directly ahead of the thumb ramp.

There is no manufacturing reason for it. It's just my preference.

I’m glad it is. That’s why I have a DEF but no dagger. Not just thumb but index finger too, say when peeling potatoes with the DEF :)

Was an honor to handle that Gladishiv. Totally awesome and was a great score

I'll make another one at some point

I'll try to have a few cool things on the table here at the shop for our Outlaw cut on October 26th. I'm even reaching out to some other makers to see if they want to put anything on some of the open dinner tables in the tent. Maybe we can have a little micro show.

Don't forget us Meadville faithful! Lol

I'm hoping to have some stuff with me
