i dont have a power hammer so i havent started pounding out my own damascus yet
tell me what you think

Very nice! I love what you did with the guard -- the hand carving looks great with the stag.

thank you so very mush for the links! im gonna start on one as soon as i get the materials. i know i cheated on the blade but ive had it for about 3 months(before i registered on bladeforums and really opened my eyes to real knife making). all of my stuff now is hand forged. i will have some pics soon of my very own stuff. ive been collecting materials for a while now and im ready to show off my first toys! i never knew about tempering before i joined on here.

for the dk in the guard i used vinyl sticker backing to mask the rest off, cut it out and used a patina solution.if i can get a good picture it looks like heat colored metal with blues and purples

Mike thats a great looking bowie. I especially like the way you textured the guard to match the natural stag instead of the other way around. Really artistic.
I want to try some patina finishes sometime too.

hey what kind of wood is that in the picture?

:)
I thought you had milled or filed those initials out and filled the holes with something :)

I like the matched grooves of the stag, too!

thanks for the kind words guys. the peice of wood is curly maple. i hope to have an overabundance of that and box elder burl very soon. im removing a very large box elder tree in my back yard right now, what a p.i.t.a.! i will be stabilizing both and have lots of scales for sale cheap.
