Wanted folks to have a chance to try out a chakma ground from a file (they really do work like magic on even the hardest tempered khuks). Got to thinking, grinding a blade, forming a tang, making and fitting a handle, etc., might be more bother than some folks want to get into.
So, ta dah (insert drum roll), here's a plan for a chakma that should be very simple to make, small enough (3" OAL) to carry on your keychain, and, if done right, will do some pretty amazing things to just about anything that's got an edge on it. If my drawing doesn't post properly (got my fingers crossed), and you're interested, drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the .jpg so you can print it out. I can make one of these for 50 cents in just over an hour. It don't get much cheaper/simpler than that.:D

Perfect EDC.

But you should at least ask for rice for that much grinding.
And the cost of the file.

How about adding a cho in the shape of a bottle cap lifter?
Or sharpen the lifter point and have a can opener too?
:D

Bill - any chance we could convince the kamis to use files to make chakmas?

Given that they clearly have access to them...

I appreciate the kind words guys, but be advised, old sergeant's are devious, and usually have well hidden agendas. Mine in this case goes as follows; A "dirt simple" project like this might just encourage a fellow to put an old file to a grinder, who might not have done it otherwise for fear of failure. Once he gets hypnotized by the whirr of the grinding wheel and the shower of purty sparks, I've got him hooked. I guarantee you after he makes a couple of these that turn out just right, it's only a matter of time before he attempts his first knife. Next thing you know he's ordering blanks of D-2 barstock and one of them fancy "Grizzly" grinder thing-a-ma-bobs.;)

p.s.: Ben, Donut, and Bruise, you're killin' me guys.

I figure $10.00 with or without postage. Handmade by 'Sarge'. WOW what a deal. :D

Carry it with you for whatever knife you have on you. Fantastic. :)
