Here's an interesting comparison: Becker BK7 vs Terävä Skrama 200

Looking at buying one of these two knives. I have the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 and the Skrama 240. They are both tough-as-nails knives. I was looking for a 7" carbon steel blade, but don't have access to either to test. Any experience with either/both that could help me decide? Will use as a general-purpose camping knife in addition to my Jääkäripuukko 140 and Opinel 9. Thanks!

B bigstevek ,

If you're wondering why it's been almost three hours with zero answers, I reckon that the folks who own both have wrestled with this question a bit. I know that I have. I've probably settled on the BK-7, about three times since first seeing this thread, and then quickly gone back to "undecided". I think the factor that keeps pushing me toward the BK-7 is the standard(?) design of it, versus the "seax" design of the Skrama.

One of my small pet peeves is when someone asks, "Which one...'A' or 'B'?", and a person quickly chimes-in with, "Have you ever considered 'C'?" Well, if you'll humor me, I'm about to commit the same sin...

I have a couple of Pelican 1450 boxes that are set-up for my truck. The contents have morphed or evolved over the years. However, they mostly have a pistol and extra ammo, a little cash, some basic first aid, a flashlight, some 550 cord, a compass, a field sharpener, utility gloves, some gun oil or other lubricant, some redundancy in fire starters (*storm matches, lighter, ferro), a little tinder, and a small/medium/large knife combo like the one that it appears that you are trying to assemble.

That being posted, one of my favorite large knives, in the combo, is often a TOPS 107 Steel Eagle "E" or "C", with the "hunters' point", as opposed to the tanto point variant. I believe that the Steel Eagle has a blade length of about 7.5" (*because of the finger choil) and is executed in a 1/4-inch of TOPS 1095 steel. Again, I'm breaking my own "suggestion" rule, but just wanted to throw that out there.

As far as your original inquiry, I doubt that you could go wrong with either the BK-7 or 200 Skrama. They're both outstanding tools.

Happy hunting.

Great answer! Thank you!

Alone Alone no 107 pic? :p

Personal preference, both great knives imho.
I liked the style of the BK-7 better, here's mine. Got micarta handles and kydex sheath for it. Wonderful knife imho. If you've never tried the Becker handles, they're very comfy and ergonomic for most people and feel great in the hand

I think the skrama is better designed for tasks like batoning and chopping. ( general knife destruction stuff)

The rubber handles absorbs more shock. And the shape of the blade puts more force into the tip.

I use a smaller knife for anything that needs a belly.

Brother, I meant to reply to your post earlier, but didn't.

I opted not to post any pics of my 107s. I didn't want to hijack the thread any more than I already had.

I feel like my little BK-7 has seen a bit of use, but apparently not as much as yours... ;)
