Here is the second of two Busse Apprentice Hunter blades I have finished. This one has a black linen Micarta handle finished to 220 grit and oiled to darken the handle. "Pins" are 0.210" diameter carbon fiber tubes. The blade is 3/16" thick 5160, I believe. Sheath is Concealex with a multicarry position clip. Enjoy!

Nice job with adding the handle. I am curious as to how the carbon fiber pins hold the handle on since they can't be "swedged" over the micarta, is it gluded? Thanks.

AHH Ha:cool: now the truth comes out. You have been cheating on my
knives with other projects:yawn:

Very nice:thumbup: as always

Actually, it's been a regular orgy over here! :D I've been doing 4 knives at once. This is the first one to get a sheath because the guy I'm trading it to was hoping to take it camping over the weekend, so it got bumped to the front of the sheath list. You'll have new toys to play with soon, so don't worry! :D

Im in good hands with all sta ooops I mean Chiro75

It has real Stealth potential. The all black is wicked! :) Now, to get my hands on some more of these and see if I can't manage to keep one for myself this time!

FYI, the holes in the handle are sort of non-standard. I think the coating probably does that. I used 0.210" material on this one and it was a little sloppy, so I had to be very careful lining the front of the scales up. 13/64" is close, 7/32" is close, .210 is close, 5.5mm is close, etc. Or you could go nuts with a carbide drill bit and open the holes up to 3/16" or 1/4"! :D

If they keep coming out looking like that. . .. good luck in keeping one! They'll sell before you get them finished!!! :D

So far they've been trades. The first one got me the second one, if that makes sense , and this one got me an original Blackjack Parang. I guess I'm just a sucker for knives I don't already own! :D If you break out some more apprentice blades, let me know! ;) They are fun to do, really. Takes me back to my kit knives days!

Chiro, nice work there. I love to see those scales stair-stepped.

I have 2 of those apprentice blades....lots of fun trying out different cord wrap styles on 'em...then taking it off and doing it again. :p

Is the pin material from carbon fiber arrows?

Thanks, Shappa! Actually I got the carbon fiber tubing from some hobby place. I think they use it for RC airplanes and cars and stuff. I searched forever for 1/4" CF tubing and never found it. Then I just offhandedly Googled "carbon fiber tube" and I came up with a million places that have it, although no one seems to have normal sizes of it (3/16", 1/4", that sort of thing). Same thing happened with some specific screws I was looking for for years, I kid you not, for use with my sheaths. Finally I just emailed a bunch of places and they ALL had what I was looking for, but not a single place had the component listed on their websites, so their search functions never picked it up. I about jumped through the window over that one! And the best part was that these screws I had been hunting for forever were only $4.50 for 100! But, anyway, I think I ordered the CF tubes through hobbylinc.com or something along those lines. Google showed up a bunch of different places that had it, though, if you just broaden the search. I've never used arrows, although that's a good idea, too.
