In anticipation of the arrival of my Foxy Folly, Have I told Y'all That I Love This Kukri(?);), I have started two kardas. One has a 4" blade and the other a 6" blade.................................

The tip is to check at your local flea markets and garage sales for old hunting knives in a state of disrepair.................
Even good kitchen knives of substantial build will work although they more than likely won't be as hard as the old hunting knives. Friends have given me these old knives to fix up and they gave from a $ .25 to $ .50 for them!!!!:D..........................

These two karda blades are being made from an old Boy Scout Knife and an old German Solingen Steel knife. Both had the stacked leather washer handles that were literally coming apart.
I used a hacksaw to cut off the tangs, one had the pommel pinned on to tight to remove any other way and the other was too long for what I wanted. I could pin the handles as well as epoxy them, but don't think that will be necessary. The German knife I will probably make with a peened end with a keeper.

The old hunting knives will probably at least need a Dremel to work on if you want to change the profile of the blade which I did in both cases making them more of a drop point which I think is the best all purpose utility service profile there is.
A person could make do with a hone and lots of elbow grease, I've done that, but it's a lot of Work!!!!
Softer kitchen knives could be reprofiled with a file if a person was a mind too.

My daughter has a Digital Camera that I'll try to borrow when I get everything finished and if I can find some good Free photo storage
places
I'll post some pix if y'all are interested.:D

"...lack of tool impared..."

Well that's definately not me--since I'm broke, I've done very little to impair my lack of tools!!:p

One problem is, folks here in southern California, seem to think that most old things in a state of disrepair are automatically "antiques", and price them accordingly:rolleyes:

I think you'd be lucky to find a dented spork for less than a dollar.
