In the movie "Lonesome Dove " part two Where Barbara hershey and her party are going to town in a few wagons to get supplies they are ambushed by a renegade half breed (My apologies to any aboriginals who are offended .)and his band of followers who were mostly white trash . (My apologies to any white trash who are offended . L:O:L ) They were up on a bluff and fired down into the party wiping them out ,or so they thought . One of the group was playing possum and opened up on the ambushers when they approached . He then mounted his horse and went after the half breed leader who stayed up on the bluff ,disdaining to pick over the remains . Hanging across his chest or over his pommel is what appears to be a shortened or broken off cavalry sword . It kinda had a front end like a seax . You don,t get to see it for very long . I betcha if it was on DVD you couyld zero in on it quite well . Does anyone know what I,m talking about and do you know what it was ?

I don,t remember him using it . Darn it all . I thought it looked neat . I wonder if that front edge was sharpened ? I would sure like to get a good look at it .
 
I'm more of a sci-fi guy myself,but my gradma like this one so I seen bits of it.

Try right near when he get's caught and throwen in jail..he sticks it up to some guy's neck and you get a good look at it.

I don't remember the point but it's a Cav saber that was made into a dagger/knife of some sort.

You are talking about Blue Duck, right? I hated Blue Duck. Mostly because like all Larry McMurtry's (sic) villians, he's supernatural- and can defeat the laws of physics. I got tired of seeing Blue Duck reappear hundreds of miles later in only a day or so. Fast rider.

No I don,t think its Blue Duck , though I like the scene where he tried to fly !
I think Blue Duck is in the first movie ?

Don,t quote me on this and my Apologees to Yvsas whether I,m right or wrong . I think the guys first name was Cherokee . As in Cherokee jones . He was a half breed black/Aboriginal . He actually does something very neat in the movie . When the last cowboy was charging him on a horse, Cherokee couldn,t believe it . He smiled in amazement and delight . He also twisted his head the way a dog does when it is looking at something it does not understand . I have never seen any other animal duplicate this before or since and have never seen a human do it .

I have read of some gentlemen of the wild west who if needed would literally torture their horse to make it go much farther and faster than would normally be good for its health . beating and cutting it . When they found another horse or got where they were going they would just abandon the horse . There are people of different sensibilities than our own .
