This is the one I cut the new Hawk from and cut Mark's section.

Don, It looks just like a piece of iron. What made you determine it is wrought iron? I was hoping for something more with the picture but thanks for letting me see it...... :D

I guess I should have done a closeup. It has the WI waves and it is so porus, it is almost like a sponge.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. That hinge is history already. I decided to give the whole thing to Mark. I'll pull out another one tomorrow.

I couldn't resist Ray. I went out and scored a piece and broke it off in a vise. Sure enough, the grain is there. I looked at the base of the eye on the hawk I've got soaking and the etch really brings out the grain.

Wayne had given me an old piece of wagon wheel, must have been 3 years ago now. He told me he didn't think it was wrought iron thinking it was just iron. Up untill tonight I had gone with what he said but I slit and bent it and sure enough its wrought iron. I think the thing that made him think it was just iron was it is in such good shape. I'm quite happy about this since its at least 5/8" thick. I was just about out of the other 5/8 I've been using.

I've got 4 blades each laying on the bench with the piece of stag I selected for handles. I hope today to make a bunch of butt nut nose rings out of the WI. Making the nuts slows me down so I'm going to make a bunch of them today so I can have them premade. Now I just have to remember how to make them. I still haven't used any of the WI anchor chain I got from you. Its the exact same size as the stuff I already had except mine doesn't have the cast iron piece in the middle. By looking at the chain I have it doesn't look like it ever had it but now I'm thinking it must have at one time.
