It is a GEC Horseman's knife. #734209HP in Antique Black Bone. (Scout size)

The story is that GEC made 100 of these in 2009 (50 Bone, 50 Bocote) but didn't release them. Instead, they sell/sold them out of their physical store (not online). I got this one from dealer who was asked if he could sell any.

They are branded as Great Eastern, but I suspect they are 1095 steel, as the polishing is not like other 440C from Great Eastern and a couple of ones I saw had some tarnish on them.

The hoof pick is a beast, the thickest I've seen and closes with a mighty thwack.

Now I just need a horse...

Thats a cool knife. That has to be the heftiest hoof pick I've ever seen...

I just came back from a dentist appointment and was thinking this when I saw the knife, "If GEC made that pick a bit thinner and sharper, my dentist might like one".

That bone looks great!

So cool! :cool::thumbup:
My wife worked with horses for years but always turned her nose up at any horse knives I showed her in catalogs. She always felt the pick was way too flimsy looking.
Now this GEC I know she would have loved and used for sure.

Eric, check the tang stamps. If it is stamped with Cyclops Steel Works then it is 440C, and if it stamped Tidioute Iron Works then it's 1095.
I don't think the acorn shield being a stainless knife holds true now because the new #73 hunting fixed blades are 1095 with the acorn shield.

A very nice rare bird, congrats.

Yeah, It has the Titusville Iron Works and no Cyclops Steel Works.

Yeah, Titusville, not Tidioute Iron Works. I should know better than to go from memory! ;)
What do you think the pick is made of?

Wow. Very Nice.

You don't really need a horse. Just head down to the local stables and tell them you'd like to volunteer some time. I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige.

horses are'nt so expensive but feeding is a big problem. hope that pick is about 52 or 53 rockwell. good find---dennis

Great knife. Ya don't need a horse to get joy from the hook. That hook would be handy for grabbing a string on a bale of alphalfa, fishing a wire through a wall, lifting a pot of beans or coffee off a fire at branding time, etc. -- all manner of things.

GEC ought to make some more of them.
