Here is our basic steel -- springs from a Mercedes heavy truck or bus. It will be heated and cut into appropriately sized billets for various khukuris.

The fellow holding the spring (which is so heavy I can't lift it) is Pradeep. He is assistant shop manager and a good one. He is being groomed to take Gelbu's place when I get Gelbu here to groom him to take my place.

Pradeep is a high school grad, rare in Nepal, about 26 years of age and a really nice boy. He is intelligent, dedicated and a hard worker. He is one of Gelbu's best friends and lives with Pala. We pay Pradeep 10,000 per month, about three times a school teacher's pay and give him free rent. I have high hopes for him.

Uncle,

Thanks for the great pix! Its so cool to see the inside of Birgorkha and the steel that my current and future khuks are/will be made of. I also enjoy (as I'm sure others do) hearing about the events in the shop over there. THanks for the Nepal fix---- its great to have you back and posting like mad!!!!

Forget the rest.

HI IS GOING TO SURVIVE INTO THE NEXT GENERATION.

The important part is that Gelbu is going to come over and train to replace Uncle Bill. Or maybe Yandgdu will learn to spend time on the net. Either way, we'll have family continuity.

Pala, Uncle Bill should be around for a long time. But things do happpen, and it's good to see plans made to allow for that.

I agree Rusty. HI will go on and continue to provide for all the Kamis, sakris and others in nepal. That is the important part.

Seeing a picture inside the shop is really cool. Uncle, do you have anymore pictures of the shop inside and out? I also noticed the fellow polishing the katana blade (lower left hand side). Great shot!

That's the plan -- make myself, Pala and Gelbu obsolete. Managing BirGorkha takes a great deal of running and Pala is too old to get it done. He makes some command decisions and is now our QC man.

I'm trying to get Gelbu here this year so I can take some time off and perhaps do something a little more creative.

Do I have more shots of BirGorkha and the goings on there? Only about 500 which I'll be posting on a daily basis.

I just hope Howard has enough space on his website for all of them.
