Here's what's next

I noticed that the lads had the "weapons" in checked baggage. Leave it to the media to fuel anti-knife hysteria.

Bringing illegal weapons into a country is stupid and this fellow deserves to be charged. I doubt that anything would have been done if what they had were considered to be legal in Britain.

The lads were stupid and will have to pay the consequences. After what happened on the 11th of September and knowing how tough British knife laws are, they have to be morons thinking they can get past customs with illegal items.

Not sure I appreciate them calling something with an 18" blade a "knife". To me, that's a short sword or at the very least a machette. But alas, the liberal media really does seem to want to demonize knives in general... :(

I agree with El Cid, the lads were stupid.

I mean...
Here they were, free in the United States and they willingly went back to a country that doesn't trust them with a sharp object?

They must be idiots.

ROTFLMAO!:D

I agree they were stupid for taking illegal items into a country where they're banned, but that hardly has anything to do with the media, liberal or otherwise. Those who were elected by the British people made those items illegal. That's what's next for us.
We all must make a point of CONSTANTLY demonstrating to the public that the sharp things we use are useful everyday items, and not something that only "outlaws" need.

"Knives" with 18" blades aren't illegal to own here in the UK, I think that was just poor wording (well either that or a new law has been passed). Mace, knuckle dusters and stun guns are illegal though.... along with blow guns, throwing stars, balisongs, auto knives, push daggers, any kind of chemical spray, etc etc...

Of course, if we're talking about illegal to carry, then that's anything with an edge or point, designed or adapted for hurting people. About the only thing excluded is a folding knife with a sub 3" cutting edge, although if the blade locks out, it's not classed as a folding knife. If you've got a "reasonable excuse" to be carrying an item, then you should be ok though. That "obviously" doesn't include self defence as a reason though...

Of course, if we're talking about illegal to keep in your home, for the purpose of home defence, then everything is illegal, as we aren't trusted to keep anything at all specifically for home defence as far as I know.

But please, don't get me started on the things I really hate about the laws over here. Actually I daren't complain too much because the British Governemnt are allowed to monitor our e-mail here, and if they decide to bust my limey-arse for complaining then it'll be a further offence for me to even tell you about it.

Bitter? Me? Why yes, yes I am! :D

And dont forget the TV Police!
Yeah! You gotta have a LICENSE to own and operate a TV in the UK!
They can just drive on up, and aim an antenna-like listening device at your home to see if you have an ILLEGAL TV. Then they can enter your home, confiscate it and fine you.
Is THAT stupid or what?
They worried about couch potatos? Half the country doesn't work anyway.

Only the rich and well to do (ARISTOCRACY) can own firearms and other weapons in England. The peasants.... oh excuse me, CITIZENS don't count. I guess it's in retaliation to the Magna Carta.
