I just heard a CNN report about a phone call that was made from that flight that crashed in PA which provided this information. They learned aboard that flight that the other flights had crashed into the WTC and the men aboard voted to try to take the plane back from the hijackers. I'm sure they figured their destination was one of death and destruction similar to the other two flights they'd heard about. I can only guess what happened but I'll bet there was a hell of a fight that ended with the crash. American heroes, all, God bless'em.

They may have saved the White House or AF1. That's why Bush flew to LA rather than back to DC -- suspected AF1 might be a target. The day may be upon us when AF1 will have to have a fighter escort. The friendly skies are not so friendly anymore.

The peoplw in that plane knew the possible consequences and did what they knew they should. If everybody acted like this life would be quite a bit toughter for every bad guy in the world - from international terrorists and dictators to your standard street criminal.

absolutely!!!!! Makes me proud to be an american, and I haven't felt that way much in my life

I thought AF1 always had a fighter escort! Why the heck wouldn't it?!

I read somewhere that heroes are ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. It seems the only good to come out of these things are the self-sacrifice and the coming together of total strangers. I've heard stories of people helping complete strangers down fifty flights of stairs. It's unfortunate we're not all like that all the time.

I suspect all the passengers on all those ill fated flights would have behaved in the same manner if they had known the final destination. I mean, what does one have to lose???!!!!

This news actaully cheered me up a little (I posted it on the other thread)and restored my faith. They went down fighting... saving others lives at the sacrafice of their own.

Those passengers should go down in US History as what they really are... Heros, every last one of them.

I wish they did not report that. It would have been better to tell us what happened but ignore the cell phone part. A careless terrorist plan may overlook the fact that cell phones can work from planes. None the less true heroic actions.

The gentleman who called his wife, called 4 times finding out what all had happened at the WTC and the Pentagon and finally telling his wife they were going to take action. They have my everlasting respect.

They went down -- literally -- fighting and I think that's the way to go. No use to go to the slaughter like sheep.

One of these heroes had apparently been a national collegiate judo champion. He phoned his wife and told her that he and some of the passengers were going to charge. May God bless them with the highest honors.

That is probably how their names will be recorded for posterity. There will be many others, but they were the first and it looks like they fought a hopeless situation with their bare hands. If so, they will be both our heroes and martyrs.
