Herter's Inc. Improved Bowie

Ok after my parrents came back on vacation they brought back 2 knives for me, 1 being an Andujar Navaja, and the other being the Herther's Inc. Improved bowie. The bowie in question looks more like a really good quality High carbon kitchen knife. I was just wondering if anybody else heared of the company.

Herter's was a mail order company out of Waseca MN that carried a complete line of sporting goods and really good bull about thier products. The name is now in use by a company in Beaver Dam WI. I purchased a knife of this type with wood handles for myself and brother in law. I lost mine but he still has his and swears by it. The blade is carbon steel so keep it protected. hope this helps.

What do you think of the Navaja as far as fit and finish? What size is it?

Well The navaja is a little cheezy looking, but it has a nice 4 inch blade (or near 4 inches) nice brass handle with cheezy brown plastic inserts, and no lock. I wish there was a lock on it because it is a nice knife and I would like to find more navajas.

For what it is worth, I did an article on Herter Knives in the 1995 Knives Annual. They may not be much to look at but they got the job done for very little money.

I didn't know that you are a Blade Forums member.

I have a couple of questions for you:

1) how can I get back issues/articles (espically the one with Janich on balisongs)

and 2) how do you get all of those knifes to test/evaluate?
