Here is a Herters Inc. Knife that I picked up off the forums. It was listed as having had a "hard life", and I believe that to be a true description.
The tip is broken off, and scales are uneven, and one of them is chipped on the top. The sheath is in pretty decent condition so i'm not sure what I will do with it.
I plan on reprofiling the tip, and doing new scales and pins (maybe stainless hardware?)
It seems that they scales are just slightly less than 3/8 inch each. Maybe I will do micarta scales?
If anyone has any suggestions on what to do with it and what materials to use, post them in the comments and I will consider them all!

I think I would like a more rounded handle like the top one in this photo:http://www4.gvsu.edu/triert/images11/russellbeltknives1b.jpg

After a few minutes with the grinder, some sandpaper, and some time with a coarse DMT stone:
I think the profile of the blade turned out pretty well considering about 1/4 inch of the end of the blade was gone.

Updated with some photos of the re-profiled blade. Also sanded the blade lightly and the handle some.
Nowhere near done, but enough for the moment while i consider my next steps.

Mosaic pins and micarta was my first thought.

Nice progress so far, will be a good user once done.

I love Canadian belt knives. I've never owned one, but they are very appealing to my eye.

Great job so far, I look forward to the final results. :)

Thanks guys, I am thinking of using this for the new handle.

I have no experience with the pins, but i did see the mosaic pins on this site, can anyone point me to a tutorial on installing them?

Great looking knife you have there. Brings back a lot of good memories. I bought a lot of fishing gear from Herters many years ago. There catalogs were full of interesting tidbits about everything outdoors. Spent lots of off hours going through their catalogs when aboard ship in the Navy.

Blessings,

Omar
