- Like to give a shoutout to Larry Bailey for the great work that he did with the display cases and overall display for the CKCA...Larry is a knife person's knife person.
Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Larry's that and a lot more.
He's been carrying those beautiful cases with his outstanding Hunter Collection around the country to shows for years. Well I got to find out first hand how much work and expense that is at Blade last week as I used Larry's table and cases to display my Fisk collection.

Larry not only has to pay expenses on getting his pick-up truck load of display materials to and from shows, he pays for food/lodging and also the same table fee that any knifemaker who is selling knives pays even though I don't believe he has ever sold a knife.

Don't know how many knife collectors or even knifemakers Larry has brought into the community over the many years, but he was VERY instrumental in bringing me into the fold. I still have Larry's professionally printed brochure describing his hunters and those who made them that I picked up off his table at the Harrisonburg Va Show 10 years ago.

How many makers have gone to Larry for advice over the years when their sales slowed? How many times has he helped you fibd that perfect piece of handle material? How many times has he got you to grind that guard a little more or change that pommel, only for you to find he was right?

How many collectors have sought his advice before sinking a lot of money into a custom knife.

One of my favorite saying's of Larry's is "if the design's not there what's the point of the rest" or something close to that.

Larry doesn't get a lot of "at a boys" and press for his efforts like a lot of us do. No, he's just too busy "getting er done".

Yep, Larry's more than Vice President of the CKCA he's one of my knife heroes and a great friend.

And Larry, don't even bother to call me to give me hell for posting this as I'm not going to answer the phone. ;) It needed to be said.

Mark me down for 1 "at a boy".

Thanks Larry. We sometimes get busy and forget what work goes into it. Lin

You could put his face in the dictionary beside "knife people" - and nothing more would need to be said.

Amen!

Larry called ME after hearing me threaten to bring my Hill Pearce collection to Blade. He offered a case. That sealed it.

I had not met Larry or even exchanged emails with him. Prior to Blade, I asked about VIP passes, and he phoned me at home to make sure I was taken care of. I also was not sure when I would arrive, and if I would be in time for the banquet.

Larry gave me his cell phone number and said just give him a call. It is easy to see that he is an asset to the "knife community"!

Roger's here's a photo for that definition of "Knife People".
Larry Bailey and Phil Lobred last week at Blade Show.
Both have made custom knives a major part of their lives for many years.

I agree 100%. Larry is not only a great guy but works hard promoting the custom knife community. He's not just talk, but also action.

Kevin is right, not many collectors would haul those great knife cases all accross the country to display their knives at shows.

Larry's a great guy, a boon to the custom knife world, and a friend I'm always glad to see or hear from.

Hip, Hip..

Larry is a great guy and real help to all collectors new and old timers. He also has a show that folks should attend in late October each year and spends hours of time and many $ to promote knives and knife collecting and knife makers.

Larry is with out a doubt, a very giving person. I am sure he has mentored several new makers over the years, always willing to offer encouragement and advice along the way. I am lucky enough to be one of them.

One of the highlights of the show for me was the time I spent with Larry. Blade was the first time we have ever met and I felt like I knew him for years. He is a real gentleman, enthusiastic collector, and just a lot of fun to hang out with. He is tireless with his efforts to further the appreciation of custom knives as a true art form.

Thanks for the good times, I look forward to seeing you again soon.
