Hi Everyone,

I've been looking at various websites at Hess Knives' fixed blades. I did a search and didn't come up with too much info, but they seem like an excellent value for the money. Anyone with any experience they'd like to share. Any other options that seem like as good of a deal in the traditional fixed blade market?

I believe I read somewhere that Hess is the same company/people that were producing the Marbles-branded knives in the 90s, before the name was sold and production moved "overseas." They appear to be very good quality for the money.

I deal with Hess Knives regularly. Don Hess is the owner. His son used to work for Marbles and is the one who does all the work on the knives.

The knives are about the same quality as the older Marbles. That is to say they are good, not great.

But good is actually what they are shooting for.

Don told me they wanted to be able to make a knife for the average guy. Their knives are $100 +/- and are great knives for the guy who wants a good knife to use. If you are someone who looks at a knife to pick apart fit and finish, they can drive you crazy.

I am thrilled to carry their knives. You really can't get better for the money. These are hand made, quality knives for about what you would pay for a mid-tier Buck.

They look solid. I'll be getting one in the future. But first, I have to recover from the new Northwoods Hawthorne Clip Point in Mammoth Ivory I just got! It's nice to have real problems :)

I think for their price range that they can't be beat. I have the Tiburon and Pioneer. The Tiburon gets used quite a bit. The sheath is good as well and its overall profile and size allows for easy belt carry.

I've been really pleased with this Caper in Mapleburl. I think the quality is remarkable, given what they cost. It's a surprisingly versatile knife as well, I use it a lot in the winter and you can slip it in your coat pocket for a stroll in the forest where I've used it as food prep and firemaker knife. Really can't understand why you don't hear more about these knives  They're gems. Thanks, Will

That's what I was thinking just looking at them. I wasn't sure if I was missing something. I'll have to give them a try when I get the funds together for my next purchase.

It is not mentioned most places, but just to give you a gauge on the steel you can expect -- they have most of their blanks provided by GEC. The knives are finished very well and are a great value at the prices they can be found. I have been very impressed with the variations I have handled thus far.
