Just got the 5.11 Tactical TDU Ripstop pants I ordered and decided to see how my HEST would fit in the cargo pocket. The HEST fits standing up in the first subpocket, sheath down with the handle right at the cargo pocket flap....in other words, a perfect fit and it doesn't flop around when walking...it'll be in that same spot when I'm ready for it.

I have a couple pairs of the 5.11 TacLite Pros and thought the handle/strap over the right rear pocket was goofy until I slung my HEST on it with my belt clip/sheath... it rode great and was out of the way when walking/stalking/sitting/crawling.

Going back 11 years ago when I had my first pair of Royal Robbins pants, where 5.11 came from, that strap is great for hanging your pants on stuff like doorknobs and clothing hooks and stuff. :D

I'll have to try out your little carry, there, too.

Yeah - it may be helpful if there was a velcro strip there or something to keep it closer to the body, but I've not hung up on anything... I'm not doing CQB or anything, but it may help that I usually keep my outer shirt untucked.

I believe the strap was for your chalk bag back when 5.11 wasn't 5.11 Tactical and designed their pants for rock climbing and bouldering. When the tactical crowd got a hold of them and 5.11 changed business models the strap stayed because sometimes you still need to hang crap off your pants :)

I think it may incur a wardrobe failure if used as a drag strap, and not do much to get you out of harm's way.

Cool insight on the chalk bag though - never thought of that...

I just bought (6) pair of 5.11 TDU's from Sportsmans Guide for the price of two pairs direct from 5.11

They are marked irregulars, but I can't see anything wrong with them. Really nice having the neoprene knee pads.

Gotta try the HEST carry.

Just received a couple pairs of 511 RipStop pants. Wow....love these pants. I had to brake them in properly by placing my Izula (in sheath) down inside the cargo pocket. I don't even know it's there. Oh...wait....my other cargo pocket is feeling lonely, so looks like my H.E.S.T. will be going there. At least, until my Izula II arrives...:D

good deal - nothing in my size, but I'll keep an eye on it.
