I was wondering if anyone had both or either and what you like/dislike about them.

I don't have either.... yet but if I was going to get one it would be the hest 2.0. I prefer the look of the dpx over the techno and the additional rotolock that lionsteel added is a really nice touch. The D2 blade will hold up very well on the hest but the techno has a slight advantage in that department the cts-xhp is a more corrosion resistant D2. I also like that the hest is a little larger so it will fill out your hand a bit better and give you a larger cutting edge. I love spyderco but the style of the techno does nothing for me.

I can't speak of the HEST but I feel my Techno is as good as the Hinderers, Striders, and full customs I've owned in the past. It's the first knife in over seven years that kept my Small Sebenza out of my pocket for more than a few weeks. In fact, I think it's a better compact knife than a Small Sebenza for a number of reasons and being much less pricey is a real bonus. If Spyderco blew the Techno up to about 7.5 inches overall, my days of looking for the perfect knife would be over. I was lucky enough to just pick up a Sebenza 25 and as much as I'm impressed with it, my opinions about the Techno grow even stronger as result of comparing the two.

You guys make great arguments. Flipe8 how are the ergos? Just dont want to order the techno and be dissapointed like i was in the leaf strom.

It's funny as it doesn't really have great ergos(like the Para), but I find it locks into the hand very well. The butt of the knife rests in the palm of the hand very securely. As result, I've been able to make some very hard cuts with it. I cut through some damaged 5" firehose with it at work and it did the job extremely well. I know I hit several pieces of whatever was embedded in the hose & experienced zero chipping, rolling or damage. Just a few swipes on the sharpmaker brought it back to hair-popping sharpness again. If I decided to go to one knife, it would be the Techno.

I had a HEST 2.0 like the knife but the blade play was to much for my likening so I sold it . I don't own a techno but the benchmade 755 is a very good choice I love mine .

As someone who owns both.... I would take the Techno over the two. What you have to keep in mind is the difference in the blade size. Do you need a longer blade? I think the F/F of the techno is top notch. Very smooth. Easy on the pocket. A thick solid blade that will take whatever is thrown at it. The Hest I got was a little rough on the release. Sticky lock. After a little work on it, it is better. In fact I just carried it today because it had been awhile. Once again it is okay, but I think the Techno is a step above overall. I am amazed how such a small knife can be so well built. Flicks open just like any other Spydie. Sharpens easily and gets scary sharp. It's pricey for the size I think, but it's worth it.

I have the HEST2.0 and I love the ergo's and the blade shape. The D2 holds up well and is easy to sharpen. It is a tool. If you are looking for butter smooth depoyment like a Sebenza or a ZT 0560 you may not want to get the HEST.If you want a cutting tool that you can use and use and use,I would say go for the HEST. The HEST is IMO the perfect EDC size.

There will be a DPX framelock folder about the same size as the Techno coming late this year or sometime next year called the HEAT. Looking forward to that smaller folder.

I too was interested in the HEST and had a chance to examine two lightly used examples and f&f left me a little flat and one had some blade play. In addition, I've seen a number of reviews stating blade play to be an isuue on some 2.0's FWIW, and I ultimately passed on the HEST. I did recently get a new Techno and it has been better than I hoped in terms of f&f, and materials. Having been carrying the Sage 2 around for awhile (and Sage 1 before that) I was beyond happy with the quality and ergos of these Spyderco Taichung knives and they were basically why I bought the Techno. I also considered a Strider PT (since I was looking for a beefy small quality Ti framelock/RIL) but simply couldn't find one. The Techno is so good on so many levels though I've lost interest it trying to track down any other small overbuilt folder.

EDIT: * I forgot to add the most important feature of the Techno besides all the obvious atributes already cited in the numerous reviews available re: solid lock-up, deep carry wire clip, etc., and that is...it cuts and slices VERY WELL and the 4.5mm spine thickness is hardly a hinderance at all! It tapers so thin just behing the cutting edge that not only does it hold its own cutting and slicing, but has the ruggedness with that thick spine as well making it quite a remarkable small folder.

I see Hest as constantly gimmicky. The bottle opener, the wire notch thing, just can't take them seriously.

I like the overall look and size of the techno for my pocket. I've been looking at the techno a lot and would lean towards that one.

I don't have either, but I'd go with the Techno.

It's on my list to get eventually and I love the overall look.

I don't dislike the Hest, but the 1st Gen had its fair share of issues, even though mostly minor.

Though seeing as they are two completely different styles it all comes down to YOUR preference.

In the end, you can't go wrong with a Spyderco IMO.

Just my .02

I ended up ordering the Techno. Thanks everyone for the input. My first frame lock.
*side note my manix2 g10 and boker nano (orange) came in the mail today. man i love the manix but might get rid of it, dont think its going to see any pocket time
