Like AlanP I was contacted by DPX Gear to get a free HEST 2.0 because I had a bunch of problems with the one I bought and it's replacements. I thought about posting this in his thread but didn't want to hijack it...But, if a mod thinks they should be combined I'm ok with that.

Here is my video about it. It's got a demo of the main problem with version 1, side by side comparison of the two knives to see what changed, and some macro shots.

Results of testing and a review will follow...

Great vid. I went back and corrected my review, I knew somethign was different with the geometry, for some reason I was thinking it was the blade but then after you vid realized that it was the handle. ( I don't still have my 1.0)

I've probably opened and closed mine 15-1600 times now and it's still going good lock was sticky but this weekend i've been doing all flicks and hard opens and the stickiness has really eased up. I'm happy right now!!!

Update #1 - Slightly Worrisome

Man as I watched this and the follow up you did i'm struck with the thought that lion steel really has issues with the geometry of a frame lock. I've got 2 hest folders and i really like the design, I took both of mine apart and bent the lock bar farther over and that has kept them from closing on my fingers so far. Do they just need to buy a sebenza and see exactly how they should cut the bar or what? The hest/f has the possibility to be a great knife its just frustrating to see that they keep having these issues. DPX has been great with customer service I bet all these issues are driving Pelton nuts though. I hope they get it figured out one of these days.

This has effectively stopped my search for one of the version 2.0 knives. Too many issues. Bummer, because I watched the other video in this forum and the guy had big props for the knife.

This is a long one, but worthwhile.

Teardown, fixing the play, spine whack testing of the version 1 and the 2.0

(Note, fix didn't work long term...lock doesn't fail though...)

Wish I would have given you a heads up about how tight the g10 was. I took mine apart because it was tight and loosening the pivot didn't help. That's when I realized that the g10 seemed to be pressed on. I hand squeezed it on, then just the pivot screw to get it to an acceptable level. I didn't experience the rattle that you've had, but after my trial of opening and closing a brazillion times, (around 2500 now) my lock bar got to a point where it wasn't making it all the way over for a solid lock. The lock wouldn't fail, but it wasn't going all the way over so I bent my bar some more.

I took all of my HEST failders apart and bent the lockbar over too. It didnt matter on mine if you bent it to the point where it took 2 hands to move it....they still slipped and failed.

Too bad too. I still like the design.
